Linux System Administrator

Job OverviewSpace Ground System Solutions (SGSS), a Parsons company, has an immediate full-time opening for a System Administrator with a strong Linux, virtualization, and information security background. This role will support the Naval Research Laboratory in advancing the National Security Space mission by maintaining and synchronizing software development environments across multiple sites, ensuring test, development and operational system environments are consistent, and researching new products and capabilities. The position will also upgrade and maintain the NIST 800-171 security posture of networked environments at the SGSS offices.Job ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement software for a large-scale command and control systemDevelop software using C/C++ in a RHEL Linux environmentCreate and execute system tests and document test proceduresPerform system and software level integration and test for an operational environmentTroubleshoot software system issuesKnowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standardsWork as an effective team member across multiple disciplines (systems, networking, configuration management, & test engineering)Work in a dynamic, fast-paced, & sometimes pressured environmentRequired Skills and QualificationsMust be a U.S. citizenMust meet eligibility requirements to obtain a TS/SCI clearance within 18 months of hireS. in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal educationA minimum of two (2) years' professional software development experienceProficiency developing and testing software in a Linux environmentProficiency working in a Red Hat 7 or Red Hat 8 environmentKnowledge of industry practices, techniques and standards for Linux system administration and accreditationExperience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, PERL, Python, etc.)Solid understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocolsExcellent troubleshooting skillsDoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certified (Security+ CE certification or equivalent)Preferred Skills and QualificationsExperience in Object Oriented ProgrammingC/C++ or JAVA in a Linux environmentUse of software configuration management tools (examples: GIT, ClearCase, Mercurial, etc.)Documenting test results for corrective actionsInteracting with databases (examples: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, etc.)Writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, python, PERL, etc.)Excellent troubleshooting skillsSolid understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocolsExperience with Satellite Ground Systems, Ground System Operations, or Satellite OperationsBenefitsALL benefits fully funded, for your entire family Medical/Dental/Vision/Group Life/STD/LTD – no employee premiumsSGSS funded HSA (Health Savings Account) provided with SGSS funding the maximum amount allowed by the IRSRetirement Savings Plan (RSP/401k) with a 20% annual company contribution – no employee contribution requiredCompany MissionSpace Ground System Solutions (SGSS), a wholly owned subsidiary under the Parsons Corporation, is passionate about making our nation the undisputed leader in Space because we understand that ensuring our security for future generations depends on it.
