Occupational TherapistQUALIFICATIONSActive practicing licensure to practice Occupational Therapy with the College of Occupational Therapists of ManitobaCurrent Basic Life Saving (BLS) Certification within the past 12 months as per Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR TrainingProvince of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain HealthProficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information TechnologyDemonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independentlyDemonstrated problem solving and decision making skillsDemonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environmentDemonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the positionDemonstrated communication skillsAbility to respect and promote confidentialityAbility to perform the duties of the position on a regular basisAbility to respect and promote a culturally diverse populationAbility to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and within interdisciplinary teamAbility to supervise and mentor students and provisional OTs on a yearly basis as per regulatory requirementsPOSITION SUMMARY:The Occupational Therapist (OT) performs all duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, Strategic Priorities, policies and procedures of the Prairie Mountain Health (PMH). The OT provides leadership in the care of clients contributing in the assessment, planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of care related to the profession of Occupational Therapy in accordance with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set out for Occupational Therapists by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba. The OT collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, clients, families and external agencies regarding the care needs for the client in the community, facility (acute care and personal care home) and home care settings. The OT acts as a mentor for OT students and for provisional OTs as per regulatory requirements.RESPONSIBILITIES:Overview:Organizes, prioritizes and assumes responsibility for assigned caseloadApplies Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills to provide optimum individualized and evidence based assessment and treatment for clients assignedCollaborates with clients on the planning, implementation and progression of the treatment plan, providing education and counseling to the client and/or family memberDelegates activities and tasks to Rehabilitation Aides as appropriate and in accordance with the treatment planUtilizes evidence-based practice and techniques within the scope of Occupational Therapy in the treatment of clientsCommunicates, consults and collaborates with other health care professionals of the multidisciplinary team in the implementation of the treatment planDocuments in a timely manner as per PMH policy and relevant professional college guidelinesAttends care conferences, discharge planning, multidisciplinary and team meetings as applicableLiaises, consults and exchanges verbal and/or written information with external agencies in accordance with relevant policy and legislationSupports and promotes health promotion and disease prevention and primary health care principlesCompletes required statistical reporting as required and within established timelinesCollaborates through discussions with management to ensure continuity of services to optimize caseload coverage during periods of absence vacancy, whenever reasonably possibleProvides clinical supervision of students or provisional OTs as per guidelinesWorks collaboratively with management in proposing, planning and participating in the implementation of services and/or therapy programmingDuties may include the requirement to work after hours and weekends.Keeps up to date with the policies and procedures of the PMHParticipates in performance review process and goal setting to enhance work performanceUtilizes critical thinking skills to guide decision-making within scope of practice and positionReports pertinent information to the Therapy Services Management in a timely mannerOther duties as assigned
