COMPANY OVERVIEWAndersonOrd is an apparel company based in St. Augustine, Florida. The business has built its foundation in wholesale distribution and is now expanding into licensing. Accounting has historically been managed by an outside firm; as the company scales, AndersonOrd is bringing this function in-house and building its first on-site finance leadership role.POSITION SUMMARYThe Controller is the senior on-site finance leader responsible for building and running AndersonOrd's day-to-day accounting operation. This role owns the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, cash flow and inventory/COGS management across both the wholesale and emerging retail channels, and internal controls. Given the company's current size, the Controller also carries select HR administrative responsibilities, including payroll oversight, benefits administration, and employee recordkeeping. This is a hands-on, builder-type role suited to an experienced accounting professional — a CPA license is not required, but demonstrated technical depth and independent judgment are essential.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — ACCOUNTING & FINANCE• Own the full accounting cycle: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close.• Prepare timely, accurate monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and present results to ownership/executive leadership.• Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital planning, particularly around seasonal wholesale order cycles and retail buildout/inventory investment.• Oversee inventory accounting and cost of goods sold across wholesale and retail channels, including landed cost, standard costing, and periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliation.• Manage multi-channel revenue recognition (wholesale invoicing vs. retail POS) and reconcile merchant and payment processor accounts.• Design and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures appropriate for a company of AndersonOrd's size and growth trajectory.• Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting, and deliver variance analysis against plan.• Serve as the primary point of contact for the company's outside CPA/tax firm, banking relationships, and any remaining third-party service providers; coordinate tax filings, sales tax compliance across wholesale and new retail jurisdictions, and any external reviews or audits.• Manage fixed asset accounting and lease accounting, including costs associated with new retail location build-outs.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — HUMAN RESOURCES & ADMINISTRATION• Process or directly oversee payroll in coordination with the payroll provider, ensuring accurate and timely pay for wholesale and retail staff.• Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance enrollment, PTO tracking, and retirement plan administration.• Manage new-hire onboarding and offboarding, and maintain accurate, compliant personnel files and employment records.• Support core HR compliance activities: employee handbook maintenance, wage-and-hour compliance, workers' compensation administration, and required labor law postings.• Act as the first point of contact for employee questions related to pay, benefits, and time off.• Coordinate with outside HR or employment counsel as needed on more complex personnel matters.QUALIFICATIONS• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.• A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2-3 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting management capacity.• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and full-cycle accounting is expected.• Experience in apparel, consumer products, or wholesale/retail distribution strongly preferred.• Hands-on experience with inventory accounting and COGS in a product-based business is required.• Proficiency with accounting software; familiarity with retail POS and/or EDI systems is a plus.• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with financial systems and data.• Prior experience handling basic HR and payroll administration within a small-to-midsize company.• Strong communication skills and demonstrated comfort operating in a hands-on, small-team environment with direct exposure to ownership and executive leadership.• High degree of integrity, discretion, and an ownership mentality.BENEFITSBenefits: [Health insurance, paid time off, retirement plan, and other benefits per company policy]Location: On-site, St. Augustine, FloridaWORK ENVIRONMENTThis is a full-time, on-site position.
