Italian Faculty (Visiting Assistant Professor - 1 Year)
The Saint Mary's College Department of Modern Languages and Cultures invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian, with the possibility of renewal, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate is expected to teach seven courses per academic year and undertake standard departmental duties, including advising. The ideal candidate will demonstrate potential for (or experience in) leading, growing, and promoting the Italian minor.
We seek applications from generalists with experience in teaching all levels of language and advanced courses. The field of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience teaching courses in modern and contemporary culture and literature. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment and a desire to engage with the mission of Saint Mary's College. Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Italian and will hold a PhD in Italian by August 2026.

Teaching, Research, and Service Expectations:
3/4 teaching load that includes: beginning, and intermediate Italian language courses, as well as advanced language and culture courses for the Italian minor.
Research/creative activity is not required for this visiting position.
Service expectations at the department level include advising students in the Italian minor and promoting the program through participation in department and campus-wide activities, such as advising the Italian club.
Qualifications
PhD in Italian by August 2026.
