Position Type:Central Office Administration/Manager/SupervisorDate Posted:2/18/2026Location:Webb ElementaryDistrict:Hazel Park SchoolsPosition: Hazel Park Transportation SupervisorLocation: Bus Garage (Webb/Jardon Building)12 Month PositionFTE:1.0Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY: The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for directing the daily operations of the transportation department, including district motor pool, to assure safe and efficient pupil transportation, vehicle maintenance, routing, scheduling, and fiscal responsibilities in support of the school district's instructional and activity programs for students. This position requires strong proven abilities in organizations, leadership and human relationships.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides leadership to the Transportation department on day-to-day operations. Monitors daily operations to assure that work is performed efficiently and in accordance with appropriate regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.Oversees all aspects of the daily bus and bus maintenance operations. Provides lead direction to the Transportation Department office and bus maintenance staff. Facilitates staff meetings to provide annual in-service and address operational issues.Resolves or delegates daily operational problems and emergencies while coordinating with the Superintendent on complex problems.Performs road checks during periods of inclement weather.Provides recommendations to the Superintendent regarding changing school schedules including school cancellations due to weather conditions.Responds to routine personnel questions or concerns in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and district policy. Consults with the Superintendent and Human Resources on non-routine issues.Establishes and maintains positive customer relationships with parents, schools, and departments. Coordinates with transportation department staff, schools, and customers on start of school protocols and resolves concerns.Coordinates and assists with the Oakland Schools and district transportation training program, collision investigations, safety programs, student management, drug and alcohol testing, bus driver performance evaluations and staff development.Coordinates with the bus maintenance for planned maintenance and to prepare for annual state bus inspections. Coordinates with the Superintendent on resolving any inspection issues.Collaborates with a variety of personnel from other departments, districts, state agencies, and organizations relating to pupil transportation.Coordinates with local municipalities and agencies to improve student walkways, road conditions and other safety related issues in the district.May assist in the collective bargaining process applicable to the transportation department by providing recommendations and input. Administers the collective bargaining agreement.Meets regularly with the Superintendent to provide information on operational issues, including changes in pupil transportation regulations and guidelines.Assist and/or coordinates with the development of policies and procedures, system upgrades and implementations, departmental staffing changes.Comply with all district policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.Performs purchasing duties in compliance with district policy and procedures.Participates as an effective member of the district management team.Continue professional growth, formulate goals, seek feedback, apply new skills, and participate as a team member with colleagues.Completion of the SE-4107 and assistance in completing the SE-4094Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREDKnowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to pupil transportation.Knowledge of the principles and practices of pupil transportation planning, scheduling and route development.Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of vehicle maintenance and related safety and legal standards.Demonstrated leadership of the integration of special needs students into a school setting.Knowledge of effective methods of program development, implementation and evaluation of methods, practices and techniques.Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision of staff.Skills and ability in organization, time management, task prioritization and recordkeeping.Skills demonstrating a high level of integrity, commitment, and work ethic.Ability to plan, organize, and oversee assigned work programs, including monitoring work schedules and work performance.Ability to operate school bus and district vehicles.Ability to provide transportation staff with in-service/professional development opportunities to increase proficiency in their fields of expertise.Ability to work well under pressure and use sound judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.Ability to analyze complex situations and synthesize diverse information.Ability to provide guidance and direction to staff and promote a team environment.Ability to facilitate and promote conflict resolution.Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting.Ability to interact positively and effectively with students, staff, and administrators.Ability to use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.Drive Routes when/if necessaryLICENSING/CREDENTIAL AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSMust pass and maintain medical approval for a CDL pursuant to U.S. DOT guidelines.Must have an Approved and Valid CDL LicenseThe Hazel Park School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, height, weight, religion, or marital status in its programs and activities.
