GIS Technician
The role involves in successfully performing Map Data Editing and Inspection Works. The Map Editors are responsible to Perform map data edits, Inspect Mapping datasets for defects and Irregularities. Performing documentation of the findings on the processes, Workflows, tools, Specifications, training content and measuring productivity are some of the key tasks involved.
Responsibilities :
· Data Inspection- Inspect mapping datasets for defects and irregularities.
· Data Editing- Perform map data edits when indicated by applicable standards and specifications.
· Workflow Documentation- Document workflows as they develop.
· Tools Testing- Observe tool behaviours and document issues when indicated by applicable standards and specifications.
· Tools Feedback- Generate additional recommendations for tool enhancements based on developing workflows.
· Training Feedback- Receive project training and record observations for updates and enhancements.
· Productivity Measurement- Assist with the collection of metrics for level-of-effort studies and project scaling estimates.
Skills & Qualifications
· Ability to interpret multiple, potentially overlapping, Map Sources according to source interpretation guidelines and priorities.
· Working knowledge of map usage and digital mapping concepts.
· Ability to recognize common planimetric features in natural color photography.
· Ability to learn editing workflows in map editing software.
· Familiarity with common GIS editing software, including QGIS.
· Working knowledge of computer terms and concepts, especially as they apply to data sources and products that describe geo-referenced business listings.
· Ability to manage and organize large volumes of data.
· Excellent organization skills—able to design and implement ad hoc tracking systems as spreadsheets or other desktop computer tools.
· Demonstrated ability to perform open-source research with a variety of search tools and techniques.
· Ability to follow (or question) complex procedural instructions in English that may have gaps, ambiguities, contradictions or other imperfections typical of early-stage piloting.
· Ability to produce concise documentation of issues encountered during the execution of Assignments, in a format that may be dictated to support issue tracking systems and to support the analysis of issue uniqueness.
Required Competencies/Experience:
· 2-3 years of experience working on GIS Programs
· Experience working on Maps related program for Large Map development companies is a must.
· Has experience working on digital map production environment and responsible for Delivery and Quality functions.
