Developmental Trainer (DSP)

The CDS Developmental Trainer/DSP is responsible for providing direct support, instruction, and supervision to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities participating in the agency’s Community Day Services (CDS) program. This position promotes independence, skill development, community integration, and personal growth through structured programming, person-centered support, and adherence to all regulatory and agency standards. The Developmental Trainer/DSP implements Individual Service Plans (ISPs), leads activities, supports behavior strategies, and ensures the safety and well-being of all participants while fostering a positive, respectful, and empowering environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Provide daily support, supervision, and skill-building instruction to individuals in the CDS program. · Implement goals and outcomes established in the Individual Service Plan (ISP) and document progress accurately. · Lead engaging, meaningful small-group or individual activities focused on life skills, vocational development, communication, socialization, health and wellness, and community participation. · Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed, such as grooming, toileting, hygiene, eating, or mobility. · Promote independence and self-determination in all areas of programming. · Follow Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies and agency-approved behavior intervention plans. · Maintain a safe, respectful environment, responding to emergencies or incidents according to policy. · Communicate effectively with QIDPs, managers, coworkers, and clinical team members regarding participant needs, concerns, and progress. · Complete daily attendance, service notes, data collection, and documentation in accordance with DHS Rule 119, Rule 120, and agency standards. Qualifications · High school diploma or equivalent required. · Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred but not required (training provided). · Must meet all Illinois DHS requirements for DSP credentialing (or complete credentialing within required timelines). · Ability to complete required trainings, such as CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention/Intervention, DSP training, and agency certifications. · Strong communication, patience, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. · Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and provide physical assistance as needed. · Must pass all required background checks, physical, and drug screening. Work Environment Work is performed in both indoor classroom settings and community locations. The role may involve lifting, bending, assisting with mobility, driving (if assigned), and supporting individuals with a range of physical, cognitive, and behavioral support needs.
