Capital Engineering Manager

Position:Capital Engineering ManagerPrimary Report to:Plant ManagerPrimary Supervision of:Engineering Secretary, Project Engineer, Project Lead, Designer, and Construction CoordinatorRequired Qualification:B.S. in Engineering plus 10 years manufacturing project and supervisory experience.Position SummaryLeads the Capital Engineering function to safely deliver capital projects that improve reliability, reduce cost, and support long-term plant strategy. Accountable for project execution, capital allocation, engineering standards, and development of engineering talent. Ensures projects are scoped correctly, executed efficiently, and deliver measurable business value.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Team DevelopmentLead, coach, and develop Capital Engineering personnel to build a high-performing, accountable team. Establish clear expectations, priorities, and performance metrics aligned with plant and corporate objectives. Drive a culture of ownership, technical rigor, and continuous improvement. Capital Project ExecutionOwn the full lifecycle of capital projects from concept through startup, including scope definition, justification, design, execution, and closeout. Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and meet defined technical and business objectives. Enforce disciplined project management practices, including stage-gate reviews, risk management, and change control. Capital Planning and Financial StewardshipDevelop and manage the plant capital plan, including prioritization of projects based on safety, reliability, regulatory, and return on investment. Provide clear financial justification and track post-project value realization. Control capital and expense budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources. Reliability and Cost ImprovementPartner with Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability teams to identify and execute projects that reduce maintenance cost, eliminate chronic issues, and improve asset performance. Lead or support initiatives that deliver measurable cost savings and productivity improvements. Engineering Standards and GovernanceMaintain and enforce plant engineering standards, specifications, and design practices. Ensure consistency, quality, and long-term maintainability in all engineering deliverables. Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools. Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory ComplianceEnsure all projects meet applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Integrate safety and operability into design through proper reviews (e.g., PHA, MOC). Hold the team accountable for safe execution in both design and construction phases. Cross-Functional IntegrationWork closely with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and Finance to ensure alignment on priorities and execution. Serve as the primary interface for capital project communication and decision-making. Other ResponsibilitiesSupport plant initiatives and strategic objectives as required.
