Billing & Coding Specialist
DescriptionPosition Description:The Billing and Coding Specialist position is a position that is situated in the Billing and Coding Department. The Billing and Coding Specialist performs duties which support and enhance the coding, entry and auditing of their assigned charges.Position DutiesCode, enter and audit all assigned Charges, in a timely manner.Follows up with providers and clinic staff for clarification and error correction.Corrects errors and answer requests from Coding and Charges Error email account.Works assigned providers Unbilled Encounters reports biweekly.Assist department team members in attaining timely entry of charges and error rate goal.Assist with general department reports for accuracy and correction.Other duties as requested of the department manager that are consistent with and appropriate for this position title and rolePosition ExpectationsTo perform the position successfully, an individual is expected to:Maintains 95% error rate for assigned charges.Demonstrable experience in coding and medical billing, preferably in personal injury medical claimsKnowledgeable of medical collections best practicesWorking knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Outlook softwareUnderstands basic medical terminology, financial concepts and general billing functionsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsA strong analytical mindsetOutstanding organizational skills; able to multi-taskBe passionate and professionalBe success-driven and metrics focusedBe smart; work smartHave a positive attitudeBe a positive agent for change to enhance improvements to the Charge & Coding team's performance and productivityMaintaining patient confidentiality and information securityRequirementsEducation:High School diploma; college course work or diploma a plus but not requiredCPC Certification preferred but not requiredExperience2+ years of Experience in medical billing and codingMS Office, Excel and Outlook experiencePreferredAbility to multi-task under time pressure.Strong communication and leadership skillsProficient computer skillsBe team oriented and able to work within a diverse group of colleagues, managers and team leaders.Be able to make sound decisions while on the move in a fast-paced organization.Position Miscellaneous40 hours per week; extended work hours (overtime) from time to time to meet deadlinesAchieving benchmarks, setting goals and meeting deadlines are criticalAbility to interact, engage and communicate effectively within the department and with other corporate business office employeesThis is a tele-commuting positionPhysical DemandsFrequent sittingFrequent manipulation of documentsContinuous typing or use of keyboardLimited lifting floor to overhead of less than 10 pounds
