Lee Pesky Learning Center (LPLC) is seeking Literacy pod tutors to join our team for the Summer Bridge program in Wood RiverLPLC, a leader in education nonprofits, is a comprehensive training, service, and research center with a rich history and a promising future. Located in Boise, Idaho, with a satellite office in the Sun Valley area, LPLC was founded in 1997 by Alan and Wendy Pesky in honor of their son, Lee. Today, LPLC provides evaluation and one-on-one intensive intervention to individuals facing obstacles to learning while also training teachers in the classroom and supporting students in schools and communities. We recognize that obstacles to learning can be multi-faceted, and we understand the power of prevention.Tutors working for Lee Pesky Literacy Pods will teach elementary-aged students during the summer months. Tutors will teach within a pre-established program and will be supported by the Director of School & Community Programs and an onsite lead tutor. Tutors will work alongside other adults who want to contribute to making a difference in the lives of young learners. The Tutor follows a scripted, evidence-based instructional program and uses research-based instructional methods to teach young students how to read. The Tutor is responsible for maintaining administrative documents including parent consent forms, attendance records, and notes about lesson progress.Why Join Us?Transformative Work: Be a key player in transforming educational experience for students who learn differently. Collaboration is at the heart of our integrated service delivery system, ensuring that each student receives comprehensive support.Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: LPLC is committed to improving school and life outcomes of individuals facing learning or attention challenges while also addressing the systemic obstacles faced by our communities.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach foundational reading skills to first gradeFollow scripted lessons for each sessionCollect and maintain on-going data (every session) on student performanceMaintain close communication with parents or guardiansProvide a Learning Update to the parents or guardian every weekConduct a final meeting with client/parentsWrite Progress ReportsEnd of Program Progress Reports at the end of program sessionAttend parent/community eventsAttend all events and training as requiredEssential Job FunctionsBe available Monday through Thursday as assigned, and promptly arrive for scheduled sessionsProvide instruction in reading using a scripted reading programProvide individualized and/or small group instruction to achieve program goalsRead orally with accuracy and clear articulationMonitor achievement of students (administer, score, and record progress monitoring measures)Compose, edit, and prepare accurate evaluations or progress reportsMaintain accurate attendance records and document progressCommunicate with parents and guardians regarding the client's program and progressReact to change productivelyUse excellent interpersonal skills and remain calm in an emotionally charged environmentMaintain confidential records and filesCommunicate effectively through written and spoken English using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabularyModel professionalism through behavior and appearanceMinimum QualificationsHigh school diplomaExperience working with young childrenKnowledge of how to effectively interact with children ages 5 - 8Ability to speak Spanish, highly preferredExcellent communication skills (both verbal and written)Excellent interpersonal skillsSkilled in using computerized office programsWell organized, detail-orientedComfortable in a teamwork situationGood problem-solving capabilitiesHow to ApplySubmit your resumeComplete the application questionnaire online.Please contact mwilliams@lplearningcenter.org for any questions
