Security Officer

Salary: $20.00 - $25.00 Hourly Location : Kenansville, NC Job Type: Part-Time Temporary Job Number: PRES-CS-01 Division: President's Office Department: Public Safety Opening Date: 03/20/2026SUMMARYTo ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors by patrolling campus buildings and grounds, enforcing safety policies, and responding to emergencies. This position reports to the Director of Public Safety. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Conduct patrols of parking lots, buildings, and grounds to detect hazards and identify unauthorized persons on campus. Secure buildings, manage traffic, and maintain a security presence at campus events. Enforce campus safety policies and parking regulations. Act as first responder to alarms, medical emergencies, and safety threats. Prepare daily activity logs along with incident reports. Assist college officials with the enforcement of James Sprunt Community College Policies and Procedures regarding safety and student conduct. Investigate and report suspicious activity to the Director of Public Safety in a timely manner. Perform other job -related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience, Skills, and AbilitiesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to remain calm in tense situations. Ability to demonstrate good moral character. Ability to work respectfully within a team environment. Ability to interact effectively with all students, faculty, staff, and the public. Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for creating, writing, and submitting reports. Education, Experience & SkillsRequired: High school diploma or equivalent. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Valid driver's license that meets James Sprunt Community College's insurance requirements. Preferred: Certified in or ability to obtain and maintain certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
