Sr. Electrical Controls Engineer
Overview
In this role you will lead the design, implementation and commissioning of industrial control systems for process and manufacturing facilities. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, maintainable PLC/HMI/SCADA solutions that meet safety and hazardous-area standards. You drive technical decisions, mentor junior engineers and coordinate with vendors to keep projects on schedule and within budget. This position offers hands-on field and factory testing, plus opportunities to shape control architectures on complex industrial systems.

ResponsibilitiesLead design and development of control systems including PLC logic, interlocks, sequences and control strategiesDevelop and configure HMI screens and operator interfaces for safe, clear control and diagnosticsCreate electrical control schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts using AutoCAD; review vendor electrical documentationIntegrate and configure SCADA systems for data acquisition, alarming, historization and operator control; ensure secure remote accessProgram, simulate, and test PLC and HMI code in factory and field; perform loop checks, FATs and SATsEnsure control systems meet hazardous area requirements and applicable standards (NEC/CEC, ATEX, IECEx); specify explosion-proof equipment and grounding practicesTroubleshoot complex control and electrical issues during installation and commissioning; provide root cause analysis and corrective actionsProduce and maintain technical documentation including logic narratives, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, panel BOMs, control narratives and test proceduresCoordinate with project managers, process engineers, instrumentation specialists and vendors to align scope, schedule and costMentor and train junior controls engineers; lead technical reviews and participate in design verification and safety reviewsQualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)7+ years of controls engineering experience in industrial environments with project leadershipProven hands-on PLC programming experience (Rockwell/AllenBradley, Siemens or equivalent)Strong HMI development experience with intuitive operator interfaces, alarms and diagnosticsAutoCAD electrical familiarity; experience with AutoCAD for control schematicsExperience integrating SCADA systems, data historization and alarm/event managementKnowledge of hazardous area classifications and installation requirements (NEC/CEC, ATEX, IECEx) with appropriate equipmentExperience commissioning control systems in field, FATs/SATs, loop checks and system validationExcellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under schedule pressure in industrial settingsStrong communication and interpersonal skills; experience coordinating cross-functional teams and vendorsProfessional certifications such as PE, ISA CCST or related are desirable
