Mechanical Specialist
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?The ideal candidate will spearhead electrical maintenance for Ladle Metallurgy Facility (LMF), Degasser, and support auxiliary equipment. This candidate will lead training of maintenance electricians and the development of maintenance procedures, while participating in the development of equipment maintenance plans to ensure a safe and reliable and continuous operation.The BasicsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience leading a team in a steelmaking/melt shop environmentMinimum High School Diploma or GED requiredMinimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in steelmaking industry in engineering, management, or similar roleStrong management skills with the ability to lead a team with minimal supervisionIn depth process control knowledgeExperience to motivate and drive individuals toward a win-win situationIntermediate computer skills to include Microsoft Office and SAPThe ExtrasBachelor’s degree preferred6+ years of experience in management position in steelmaking industryTechnical knowledge of electrical equipment to include drives, PLC’s, instruments, motors, starters, switchgears, transformers, electro-mechanical systems, cooling water systems, baghouses, overhead cranes, etc. strongly desiredTechnical & process knowledge of a Melt Shop preferredTRAITS TO BE SUCCESSFULHolds self and others accountable to meet commitments; Leads by exampleMakes good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forwardConsistently achieves results, even under tough and uncertain circumstancesGains the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticityBuilds strong-identity teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goalsCreates a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectivesWhat You’ll Be DoingResponsible for Safety, Quality, Environmental and Equipment Availability of Steelmaking electrical equipment, while assisting with mechanical needs when necessaryLead or participate in incident root cause analysis and corrective actions for major failures: safety incident, environmental deviation, quality deviation, production lossInvestigate during the shift safety, quality, environmental and production incidentsCheck and ensure Steelmaking equipment complies with all environmental regulationsEnsure technicians are appropriately trained to perform their dutiesIdentify appropriate counter measures in case of non-achievement of performance targetsTroubleshoot equipment to limit unplanned downtimeWork with, LMF, RH, refractory interfaces for the overall benefit of steelmaking millCommunicate and plan with the production team to ensure equipment maintenance is coordinated with the production scheduleLead electrical maintenance planning and scheduling activities, including downturns and outagesReport data and take actions as needed or directed by upper managementProvide resources to engineers and specialists for achieving their objectivesWork with multi-disciplinary teams on continuous improvement projectsLead and/or participate in continuous improvement activitiesAssist with budget development and budget management in support of the Area ManagerFulfills the commitment to ensure a safe and healthy work environmentFulfills the responsibilities required to achieve the Quality Commitment and Environmental CommitmentDemonstrates the company values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Relationships, and SustainabilityDemonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect and accountabilityEnsure working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 14001 (current version), IATF 16949 (current version), and ISO 17025 (current version)
