Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products. Plans and executes applied research. Impact of the Role General ProfileRequires specialized expertise in technical processes or proceduresCompletes assignments and facilitates the work activities of others; may coordinate work beyond own areaMay act as a lead, providing subject matter guidance to team members but is not a supervisor Works autonomously within established procedures and practices; proposing improvements to processes and methods as neededMay also be in charge of leading training for employeesPerforms manual tasks according to established proceduresEssential Functions Assist Research Engineers in conducting experiments and research. Participates as a research team member in development or research projects. Conducts experiments using appropriate research and laboratory equipment. Identifies and labels samples meant for storage, stores in appropriate locations. Records results from tests and experiments according to laboratory procedure. Reports unusual or unexpected results to head scientist or engineer. Maintains and cleans testing equipment in the laboratory. Replaces equipment components that are worn or damaged. Maintains laboratory inventory, requesting and replacing worn, damaged, or empty items. Assists with the development of project goals and financial parameters for specific work assignments.Required QualificationsRequired education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 7-8 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or ExperiencePreferred QualificationsPreferred education and experience: Associate's DegreeDiscipline/Major: Technical training preferredKnowledge, skills & abilities: Technical expertise. Ability to understand and follow directions. Product research. Quantitative research. Research and development. Research documentation. Oral and written communication skills.Physical RequirementsMust be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.May be requested to work a different shift.Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
