Space Simulation Technician
Job ID: 7746Date Posted: April 29, 2026Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Materials Process group is seeking a Technician to support a variety of tasks in support of aerospace thermal vacuum chamber operations and flight hardware handling. SDL’s thermal vacuum chamber group is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 27 space simulation thermal vacuum chambers ranging from 12cm diameter up to 3.8m diameter.The successful candidate should have the ability to work well in a research laboratory environment and manage various hands-on technical problems.Key ResponsibilitiesPerforms maintenance of high vacuum pumps and space simulation chambersPerforms vacuum bakeouts of high outgassing components and materialsSets up and integrates flight hardware into thermal vacuum chambersFollows written operating procedures for the safe operation of space simulation chambersSupports 24/7 shift work when chambers are operatingPerforms data processingPerforms special materials processes such as precision cleaning of sensitive partsRequired Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentNASA certified soldering and cable/crimp/harness assembly or ability to obtainAbility to generate technical test reports, traveler entries, calibration certificates, and equipment maintenance recordsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to learn quickly on the job and apply learned skills to daily tasksKnowledge of MS Office, specifically Word and ExcelAbility to read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, and diagramsAttention to detail, especially in a laboratory settingMust be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearanceWork Environment & Physical RequirementsAbility to lift 50 lbs.Must be comfortable with heights with the ability to climb ladders*Salary Range$38,500 - $76,500Salary commensurate on education and relevant experienceThis range serves as a general guideline and may vary based on factors such as role, level, location, market conditions, and individual qualifications, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
