Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Stepdown team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care to less acute settings, ensuring optimal recovery and safety. Key Responsibilities - Monitor and manage patients in the PCU. - Administer medications and treatments. - Operate monitoring equipment. - Document care in EHR systems like Epic. - Collaborate with healthcare teams. - Educate patients on recovery plans. Duties Perform detailed patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological monitoring, to determine individual care needs. Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, injections, and specialized therapies such as botulinum toxin treatments. Monitor patients’ responses to interventions, manage acute pain, and adjust care plans accordingly. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation of patient care activities, medical records management, and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians specializing in cardiology, ophthalmology, infectious disease, and behavioral health—to develop and implement individualized care plans. Assist with complex procedures such as catheterizations, tube feedings, ventilator management, and sterile techniques like suturing. Provide education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, medication administration, discharge instructions, and health coaching. Support triage processes in emergency or urgent care settings by prioritizing patient needs based on acuity levels. Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed to maintain aseptic technique during all procedures. Participate in discharge planning and case management activities to facilitate smooth transitions of care across settings such as home health or long-term care facilities. Skills Proven experience working in critical care environments including ICU or Level I/II trauma centers; familiarity with trauma medicine is highly desirable. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; experience with medical documentation standards including ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is essential. Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology related to acute and chronic conditions. Skilled in performing advanced nursing procedures such as phlebotomy, venipuncture, ostomy care, NG tube management, and laboratory specimen collection. Experience managing diverse patient populations including geriatrics with memory or dementia care needs; pediatric or neonatal resuscitation experience is a plus. Ability to handle complex cases involving infectious diseases, hospice & palliative medicine considerations, or occupational health scenarios. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and with patients' families. Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational injuries is beneficial. Demonstrated ability to adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations while managing sensitive medical information.
