The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to join a fast growing company with a proven formula for success. You’ll lead and scale a new division, owning the full P&L and driving both operational excellence and strategic growth. (Also known as Division Manager / Area (Market) Manager / Director of Operations – Construction.)
We are seeking a General Manager to lead our Tampa Bay / St. Petersburg division. This individual will oversee 40–60 residential construction projects annually and manage a team of 4–6 project managers, with full responsibility for division operations, systems, and profitability.
As a new and rapidly growing company, the role requires a hands-on leader who can both execute projects and build processes that will scale the division. The right candidate is ambitious, entrepreneurial, and ready to take ownership of growing Shepherd Response’s Florida operations.
Compensation
Target base $150,000 (range $120,000–$175,000 DOE), plus 5% of divisional net profit, vehicle allowance, full benefits, and relocation support. Exceptional profiles may be considered above range.
Key Responsibilities
Division Leadership – Manage the Tampa Bay/St. Pete division, including people, projects, systems, and profitability.
Project Oversight – Supervise planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution of residential construction projects from start to finish.
Financial Management – Create and manage budgets, track expenses, and oversee divisional financials (P&L, balance sheets, income statements).
Process Implementation – Build and improve workflows, systems, and operational structures to maximize efficiency and profitability.
Resource Coordination – Manage labor, subcontractors, vendors, and materials to meet project requirements and timelines.
Quality & Compliance – Ensure work meets codes, regulations, and company quality standards.
Team Management – Hire, lead, and develop project managers and subcontractors.
Client & Stakeholder Communication – Serve as the primary point of contact, providing updates and resolving concerns.
Risk Management – Identify challenges early and implement strategies to mitigate risks.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in residential construction, including at least 2–3 years in a management role.
Strong financial literacy (P&L, income statements, balance sheets).
Ability to read blueprints, estimate costs, and build detailed project schedules.
Experience in large-volume residential construction (track homes, scattered lot, or spec)
Evidence of operational excellence/success.
Construction Management degree strongly preferred.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities; capable of motivating teams and building culture.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
