Microbiology Technician
This position will support the activities of the Microbiology Laboratory at our Sagamore Plant: microbiological analysis of process, finished product, environmental samples and data entry into SAP, MDE, and electronic Logbook. This position requires rotating 12-hour shifts and shift flexibility to cover vacations and other absences. Main accountabilities Prepare a variety of media and reagents to be used in both the Wet Microbiological Laboratory (spore testing) and the Pathogen Screening Microbiological Laboratory. Prepare test samples utilizing microbiological techniques according to established procedures, including sample pick-up (where applicable), sample check-in/logging, compositing, test set-up, test transfers, and result analysis/reporting. Test finish product samples for pathogen screening according to established procedures, including FDA BAM, Biomerieux VIDAS rapid methods, and USP methods. Collect Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) samples at the plant and at the Microbiological Laboratories and test using Biomerieux VIDAS and TEMPO rapid methods. Sample finished product bags following aseptic sampling techniques. Collect in-process profiles and test according to established procedures. Post information in SharePoint, SAP, MDE, Electronic Logbook, and Excel spreadsheets Verify and review data entries and maintain data & sample retention. Maintain/verify calibration of laboratory equipment and report deficiencies/malfunctions to the Quality Manager. Maintain a clean, well-stocked lab. Identify, record, and help correct nonconformities and potential nonconformities, as applicable. Participate in on-going and annual training, test method/SOP reviews, and proficiency testing as requested by Quality Manager. Ensure through documentation and record keeping of lab activities such as testing details, reagent preparation, equipment set points, etc are done following ISO 17025 guidelines. Follow established SOPs per ISO 17025 guidelines. Use of autoclave to sterilize all needed media, tools, and used media before disposal. Competencies, Skills and Experiences Four-year college degree with technical training in microbiology, biological, physical or engineering sciences or associate degree (or equivalent). Educational and practical microbiology foundation Aseptic techniques Standard microbiology culture procedures. GLP's Proven technical skills including experience with microbiology laboratory work. Experience with laboratory methodology and equipment Familiarity with aseptic techniques/equipment is a plus. Ability and willingness to follow established Test Methods, and SOPs Ability and willingness to cover vacation and sick time of other colleagues when necessary. Ability to multi-task and prioritize with attention to detail, quality, and accuracy. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and adapt to changing procedures. Good troubleshooting skills, ability to work well with others, excellent communication and computer skills, and a customer focus with understanding of customer needs. Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
