Job Title: Sr. Controls EngineerLocation: FloridaDuration: Long TermClient: J&J VisionJob Title: Project OverviewJohnson & Johnson Vision requires a Senior Control Systems Engineer to support the development, deployment, and sustainment of automated manufacturing systems used in the production of medical device products. The engineer will lead automation initiatives, ensure system reliability and compliance, and provide technical leadership across multiple engineering disciplines. This role supports both new equipment introduction and continuous improvement of existing automated systems. 2. Scope of WorkThe engineer will be responsible for delivering automation and control system solutions across the full project lifecycle, including design, programming, integration, validation, and longterm support. Work will be performed in a medical device regulated environment and must comply with internal procedures, GAMP 5, and GxP Standards as the apply to the medical device industry. 3. Responsibilities & Deliverables 3.1 Automation System DevelopmentDesign, develop, and implement automation and control systems for manufacturing equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, motion systems, and custom software.Create system specifications, functional requirements, design documentation, and test plans.Develop PLC logic, HMI interfaces, robot programs, and supporting software tools.Conduct simulation, bench testing, and onequipment commissioning.3.2 System Support & ComplianceTroubleshoot, maintain, and optimize automated systems to ensure uptime, reliability, and product quality.Develop documents and perform system validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) in accordance with GAMP 5 GxP standards for Medical Device Manufacturing and internal quality procedures.Ensure all automation changes are documented, reviewed, and compliant with regulatory requirements.3.3 Technical Leadership & CollaborationLead project execution activities, including task planning, technical oversight, and mentoring of junior engineers.Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, IT, OT, ETD, and R&D to define requirements and deliver integrated automation solutions.Provide technical guidance and rootcause analysis for automationrelated issues impacting production.3.4 Integration & Digital SystemsLead integration of manufacturing equipment with enterpriselevel systems such as MES, ERP, data historians, and serialization/traceability platforms.Evaluate and implement peripheral technologies including vision systems, barcode readers, load cells, and laser marking systems.3.5 Customer & Stakeholder EngagementInterface with internal customers to understand technical needs, propose solutions, and ensure successful project delivery.Assess existing technologies and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and modernization. 4. Required Qualifications 4.1 Experience5 -10 years of experience in automation, controls, or manufacturing engineering.Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing strongly preferred.Demonstrated experience delivering automation projects in regulated environments.4.2 Technical SkillsAdvanced proficiency with AllenBradley / Rockwell Automation PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix).Experience with industrial robot programming (Epson, Mitsubishi, Fanuc, Denso, or equivalent).Proficiency in FactoryTalk View SE/ME HMI development.Handson experience with Cognex vision systems and industrial laser marking systems (e.g., Domino).Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, motion control, and safety systems.Working knowledge of objectoriented programming (Python, C++, Java) for automation support tools or data processing.4.3 Soft Skills & Professional AttributesStrong analytical and problemsolving skills.Ability to lead crossfunctional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Excellent communication and documentation skills.Selfmotivated, organized, and capable of delivering highquality work with minimal supervision.4.4 Specific Support ActivitiesSoftware Technical Lead for MS01 (Multiple SKU) new line installation.Troubleshooting Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC bugs and nonconforming logic.Troubleshooting MES level systems, including Devicewise and Factorytalk View SE.Troubleshooting sensors, servos, robots, and more.Interfacing with Japan (TAM), and German (Koch/Harro Hofliger) contractor during MS machine SAT.5. DeliverablesThe engineer will be expected to deliver:Complete automation system designs, specifications, and documentation.Validated PLC, HMI, robot, and vision system programs.Commissioned and productionready manufacturing equipment.Technical reports, rootcause analyses, and change control documentation.Training and knowledge transfer to operations and maintenance teams.Project updates, timelines, and risk assessments as required.6. Acceptance CriteriaWork will be considered complete when:Automation systems meet defined functional and performance requirements.All validation activities are completed and approved.Documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with internal and regulatory standards.Equipment is successfully integrated into production with stable performance.Stakeholders confirm that project objectives and timelines have been met. 7. Assumptions & ConstraintsAll work must comply with Johnson & Johnson Vision quality systems, safety policies, and regulatory requirements.Access to equipment, facilities, and internal systems will be provided as needed.Project timelines may be influenced by production schedules, validation requirements, and crossfunctional dependencies.
