LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and Infection Control Coordinator
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATIONAL: A current State of Louisiana License for Licensed Practical Nurse and compliance with all requirements pertaining to the Nursing Board. A license is required from an accredited school of nursing or higher education in nursing and/or a related field Specialized Training Equating Certification or License Capacity for Substance Abuse.
EXPERIENCE: Completion of LPN License program with a minimum of 2 years of nursing job experience. Experience preferred in working with a chemically dependent population.
SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The LPN executes comprehensive patient care activities and provides patient care leadership. He/she assesses patient medical needs, makes plans, and implements patient care activities related to the medical aspect. Also, evaluates the patient’s response to medical treatment and helps in determining when further medical care is needed, beyond the care of this facility. He/she manages/acts within the therapeutic milieu and follows the recommendations of the medical director for the delivery of the patient medical care.
JOB SUMMARY: The Human Resource department’s main purpose is to develop and encourage an environment geared towards constantly improving the standards of care for people served. This is based on the WSHC’s mission, vision, values, philosophy, and purpose.
DUTIES:
Assess the client’s medical needs derived from comprehensive medical history forms and reviews.
Serve as an assistant to the RN.
Oversee and manage direct contact client medical care in collaboration with the medical director and/or RN.
Oversees the administration of client medications and trains the DC Techs on completion of appropriate forms regarding medication distribution or recognizing side-effects.
Participate in treatment planning based on client-centered approached.
Complete the necessary paperwork for client charts including medical screening forms, vitals, and discharge planning notes and forms.
Possess skills in teamwork collaboration and the ability to take direction from the RN.
Possess cognitive, organizational, and the emotional stability and maturity to deal effectively with multiple deadlines and difficult situations.
Provide direct medical care to clients as needed, within the scope of practice.
Provide educational training on medication and medical topics to client groups and staff members.
Assist in working with aggressive patients; participate in non-aggressive physical intervention techniques.
Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
Demonstrate skills required for an LPN within the scope of practice.
Provide upon hire and continual education of staff on Infectious Diseases and Bloodborne Pathogens as well as other medical topics. Participates in staff training on topics regarding medical knowledge, care, and prevention.
Assist with the reading of client TB tests and annual TB tests for staff.
Initiates assessments to determine appropriate admission criteria. (If a client needs a higher level of medical care than we can provide, we need to document that we are referring the client to another treatment facility and the reasons why.)
Ensure that new clients receive a doctor’s appointment within 72 hours of being cleared for treatment.
Act as the Infection Control Liaison in absence of the Registered Nurse.
The Infection Control Liaison is responsible for helping Administration with identifying and preventing sources of infection and communicable diseases. This includes policies, procedures, and education.
This position works with the team to guide the organization in its treatment to eliminate known sources of infectious diseases.
Perform other duties as assigned to assist the RN/Clinical team.
