To carry out highly focused, innovative, locally designed activities to expand or enhance existing language instruction educational programs and academic content instruction educational programs and academic content instruction for English learners.Qualifications:Master's Degree (preferred)3 years of teaching experience with English learnersA comprehensive understanding of English learners' cognitive, linguistic and affective needs, working knowledge of curriculum, instructional technology, and at-risk educationDemonstrated competency in the instruction of readingAbility to analyze and disaggregate dataStrong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Ability to provide campus level and district level staff development.Bilingual (preferred)Major Responsibilities and Duties:To assist all English learners to achieve at high levels in core academic subjects.To develop high-quality language instruction designed to assist schools in teaching English learners.To assist campuses to develop and enhance their capacity to provide high-quality instruction designed to enable English learners to become proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language through the integrated use of second language acquisition methods.To assist campuses to build their capacity to establish, implement, and sustain language instruction programs of English language development for English learners.To promote parental and community participation in language instruction educational programs for the parents and communities of English learners.To streamline language instruction that help English learners develop proficiency in English while meeting challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards.To increase English proficiency by providing programs based on scientifically based research demonstrating effectiveness of the programs increasing the following: a. -English proficiencyStudent academic achievement in the core academic subjects (including native language instructionTo provide supplemental high quality professional development to teachers, principals, administrators, and other school or community-based organizational personnel (for example Intervention Specialists, ESL paraprofessionals and Campus ESL Coordinators).To improve the instructional program by identifying, acquiring, and upgrading curricula, instructional materials, educational software, and assessment proceduresTo coordinate with campuses supplemental intensified/accelerated instruction for English learners to develop language instruction educational programs coordinated with other relevant programs and services.Develop and revise district's bilingual/ESL curriculum program to meet student needs and district goals.Present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies, and administrative regulations.Integrate educational technology into the curricula and educational program to strengthen the teaching/learning process.Advise general education teachers on accommodations for English learners.Assess needs and order supplemental materials.Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.Participate in the district staff development program.Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services and Bilingual/ESL Coordinator.Supervisory Duties:N/AEquipment Used:Personal computer, copier, calculator, and fax machine.Working Conditions:Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high.
