The selected candidate will work in the Traffic Management Operations group. This dedicated position will support staging, installing, and maintaining traffic control devices for the growing number of permitted and non-permitted special event demands associated with the City's year-round event-driven schedule, as well as temporary work zones for planned and emergency operations.Duties to include:Assist in the installation and maintenance of work zone traffic control devices used for emergency detours and provide traffic control support during Special Events.Assist in the installation and maintenance of highway traffic signs.Assist with the fabrication of highway traffic signs using specialized equipment and machines.Assist with the installation and maintenance of roadway pavement markings using specialized equipment and machines.Assist in maintaining accurate records of inventory materials/supplies used to fill out daily work assignments.Assist in the collection and maintenance of sign inventory data.Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as deemed by those duties described or less.Individual assignments will be deemed by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.** Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.Must possess a valid VA or NC driver's licenseSuccessful completion of pre-employment physical.This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergenciesOfficial City Job Description:https://virginia-beach-departments-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/city/job-descriptions-pay-plans/Traffic-Signs-and-Markings-Aide-00360.pdfWorking Conditions:https://workingcondition-summary-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/B.006358.2.pdfMinimum Requirements:MINIMUMS: High school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assigned. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required. This position may be designated as a safety sensitive position and be subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination.
