Meter Reader
Utility Services PositionThis position plays an essential role in supporting accurate utility services for residents and businesses throughout the City. Through reliable meter readings, equipment maintenance, and field support, this role helps ensure proper utility billing, timely service delivery, and the efficient operation of the City's water system. The work performed in this position contributes to customer service, operational accuracy, and the continued reliability of critical public infrastructure.Position FunctionsRead and properly record readings for water meters throughout the City.Read water meter registers daily to be recorded onto handheld unit (currently using Itron FC300 device).Clean mud and debris from meter boxes and locate buried meters.Deliver delinquent and shut off notices to residents and businesses.Drive to and from City work sites.Remove and install water meters, turning them on and off as necessary.Identify possible cross connections.Conduct flow test on water meters, as needed.Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or G.E.D.Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Six (6) months experience reading utility meters.Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.Supplemental InformationApplicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening. Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
