Job Description SummaryJob DescriptionRole OverviewNorthstar Aerospace, now a part of Avio Aero - a GE Aerospace Company, is a leading independent manufacturer of components and assemblies to the global Aerospace industry. Our principal products include gears and transmissions, accessory gearbox assemblies, rotorcraft drive systems, and other machined and fabricated parts for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. We also provide maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) on these platforms.The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. They will utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for themself and others, and have the ability to affect both short-term and some long-term business goals.Roles And ResponsibilitiesProvide mechanical engineering guidance to product design, manufacturing process, and capital equipment developmentAct as the technical lead for the Operations group on new product introductionsEnsure design and process meet the needs of Production and the overall business strategyDevelop and maintain manufacturing methods and create process routingsDesign and build / procure necessary tooling and finishing within budget(s)Support equipment upgrades from purchase through installationConduct Cost-Benefit Analysis for changes to processes and/or equipmentDrive safety projects and ensure processes contribute to a safe work environmentOwn all aspects of designing and implementing capable manufacturing processes for both Northstar and suppliersTake ownership of Production, Assembly, Tooling, and Test & Calibration where requiredIdentify and reduce sources of labor efficiency variations and product quality issues caused by process variationLead high-impact process and quality improvement projects to reduce defects and increase productivityGuide and partner with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Technology, Sourcing, Manufacturing, vendors, etc.) to solve product / process issues impacting product or delivery performanceUtilize Lean manufacturing principles and participate in action workouts to improve process capability, reduce overall costs, and increase capacityFollow Lean principles to define critical requirements, design processes, and lead design team to define manufacturing specifications, complete process qualification, and demonstrate required capabilitiesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in Manufacturing)Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and/or Mechanical EngineeringPreferred Qualifications10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, ideally within the Aerospace industry5+ years of experience in high precision machining, ideally within new product or “launch” environmentsStrong project management skillsStrong problem-solving skillsStrong computer skills, including Microsoft Office productsAbility to work independently and exercise sound, independent judgment on matters of importance to Northstar’s operationsAbility to work as part of a team with little or no supervisionExperience with Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DFMA)Experience leading Lean and/or Continuous Improvement initiativesStrong manufacturing process knowledge and mechanical / electronics design experienceStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsThe base pay range for this position is $83,050.00 - $124,520.00. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/commission based on the plan.
