Power Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with a leading energy and utilities organization, is seeking a Power Engineer – Telecommunications Power Systems for a hybrid opportunity based in St. Petersburg, FL.Position Summary:The Power Engineer will support telecommunications power infrastructure initiatives across utility and telecom environments. This role is responsible for designing, documenting, and supporting the installation and maintenance of DC and AC power systems that support critical communications infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on telecom power experience, can operate independently with minimal oversight, and is comfortable supporting both office-based engineering work and occasional field/site visits.What the right candidate will enjoy:Working on mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure supporting utility operationsJoining a highly technical engineering environment with strong field collaborationSupporting large-scale telecom power systems including DC plants, battery backup systems, and AC distributionExposure to both engineering design and hands-on field implementation activitiesA hybrid work environment with autonomy and ownership over projectsWhat type of experience does the right candidate have:5–10+ years of telecommunications power systems experienceStrong background with DC power plants, rectifiers, inverters, and battery backup systemsExperience supporting optical transport or telecom infrastructure environmentsFamiliarity with multiple voltage systems including 130VDC, 48VDC, 120VAC, and 220VACExperience creating detailed technician work packages, installation procedures, and technical documentationWorking knowledge of manufacturers such as Vertiv, Eltek, Alpha Technologies, or similarExperience using Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, and JiraUtility, substation, or critical infrastructure telecom experience is highly preferredWhat the responsibilities are of the right candidate:Develop comprehensive job packages and installation procedures for field techniciansPerform site visits to assess telecom power infrastructure and troubleshoot system issuesDesign and support telecom DC power systems, battery backup systems, rectifiers, and inverter solutionsCreate and maintain technical documentation, schematics, diagrams, and engineering recordsEvaluate AC distribution panels, breakers, and power distribution systemsSupport installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities for telecom power equipmentCollaborate with field teams to ensure safe and efficient execution of telecom infrastructure projectsEnsure compliance with safety standards, PPE requirements, and utility engineering practices
