Assistant Bookkeeper
Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Assistant Bookkeeper to support our accounting team. This role involves assisting with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles and proficiency with various accounting software. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in both corporate and non-profit accounting environments, working closely with senior accountants and management to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
Duties
Assist with general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation
Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing and payment tracking
Support payroll processing and related tax filings, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
Prepare financial reports, summaries, and supporting documentation for audits or management review
Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, and other financial tools to record transactions accurately
Maintain organized records of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP standards
Assist in budgeting processes and financial report writing to support organizational planning
Ensure double-entry bookkeeping procedures are followed for all transactions
Perform general bookkeeping duties including data entry using 10 key typing skills and maintaining accurate records of debits & credits
Requirements
Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of accounting principles including GAAP, double-entry bookkeeping, and general ledger reconciliation
Experience with bank reconciliation, account analysis, and financial report writing
Knowledge of accounts payable/receivable processes and payroll administration
Familiarity with governmental accounting standards and tax experience is a plus
Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation and maintain accurate financial records
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in data entry and record keeping
Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data accurately
Effective communication skills for preparing reports and collaborating with team members
High proficiency in 10 key typing for efficient data entry
Prior experience in public or corporate accounting is preferred but not required
