University Library Technician - Collections & Research Engagement

For more information about the Libraries, please see https://lib.ncsu.edu.The Collections & Research Engagement (CoRE) department creates responsive collections for teaching and research, provides disciplinary and interdisciplinary instruction, enhances immersive learning and research, and supports the extension of research-based knowledge to North Carolina. The department develops and manages research collections aligned with the strengths of the university through deep integration with the university community and creative use of analytics and the broader digital environment. Departmental staff are subject liaisons and functional experts, connecting students, faculty, and staff to the Libraries’ services, programs, collections, and immersive visualization spaces. The department provides advanced support for researchers of all levels through course-integrated instruction, workshops, consultations, and collaborations with library and NC State partners.ResponsibilitiesThe University Library Technician (Advanced) provides support for daily operations of the Collections & Research Engagement department as well as program and project support. They work closely with librarians who are responsible for collection management as well as research and instructional services. This position also plays a key role in helping the department promote collections and Libraries’ services and expertise through creating and maintaining outreach materials and participating in outreach efforts. They play an important customer service role by communicating with faculty, researchers, students, staff, vendors, and community members and are, at times, a first point of contact for questions and troubleshooting, especially through email. The position reports to the Department Head, Collections & Research Engagement.Primary duties include but are not limited to the following:Assisting with the workflows associated with the Libraries’ streaming media collections and the Suggest a Purchase service.Triaging research consultation requests to disciplinary librarians and other library service providers.Assisting with collection assessment data using specialized bibliographic tools and administrative portals.Helping to gather and analyze departmental activity statistics.Assisting in the creation of monthly email newsletters, blog posts, and other outreach materials highlighting collections and research services.Supporting departmental programs and projects related to our collections, research, and instructional services, as well as campus outreach efforts.Providing general office support including handling facilities and supply requests, taking minutes at meetings, as needed, and updating departmental documentation for the Libraries’ intranet and public web pages.As needed, recruiting, training, and supervising a student assistant.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Preferred QualificationsAbility to serve and collaborate with a large user community reflecting a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.Demonstrated ability to collect, manipulate, and analyze data in spreadsheets using Google Sheets and Excel.Strong attention to detail, time-management, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to foster an environment of belonging and well-being.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, including the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues across the organization.
