Substation Engineering Manager (8403)

OverviewOur client, a growing power engineering and infrastructure firm, is seeking a Substation Engineering Manager to lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams through the full lifecycle of substation design projects. This role is responsible for resource and performance management, technical execution, and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will contribute to proposals, scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and client coordination while supporting EPC, field services, and construction activities as needed. This position requires 12+ years of substation engineering design experience, a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred), proven team leadership capabilities, and strong client-facing and business development experience with hands-on technical involvement. This full-time position is based in San Ramon, CA.Pay Rate: $184,387 - $200,000 DOEBenefits:Profit-sharing bonus.Medical, dental, and vision benefits starting day one.401(k) with 4% employer match and immediate vesting.Paid time off including vacation, sick time, and paid holidays.Flexible work schedule with every other Friday off.Career developmentWellness and lifestyle benefits.Responsibilities:Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Engineers, Designers, and Drafters responsible for the technical execution of substation engineering design projectsEffective management of resource planning, performance management, and professional development for all staffLead by example to create and foster a culture in alignment with company values, that embraces technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvementContribute to the development, review, and approval of proposal packages, work scope definitions, cost estimates, engineering schedules, and technical documentation for substation projectsAssist and support the engineering design teams in technical execution throughout project lifecyclesLeverage your group’s expertise and capabilities to support other areas of business operations, such as EPC projects, field services, and other construction and commissioning activities as opportunities ariseSupport and assist your group in coordination efforts with clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate project deliveryConduct periodic audits of the group’s adherence to project processes to ensure compliance with quality expectationsMonitor project KPIs and deliverable tracking statuses to the extent necessary to support the team’s efforts in delivering quality work on time and budgetSupport compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulationsParticipate in business planning, strategy, and executionPerform recruiting and talent acquisition tasks as needed to maintain business plan targets and to ensure that the team is well balanced in all areas and levels of substation designRequirements:12+ years of substation engineering design experienceBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred, ABET-accredited)Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teamsStrong client-facing and business development experience (proposals, scope, estimates)Experience supporting EPC, field services, or construction/commissioning projectsHands-on technical involvement across full project lifecyclesWork sponsorship is not available at this time.
