Senior Transport Planning Engineer (SONET/DWDM)
Looking for a Senior Transport Planning Engineer (SONET/DWDM) - Richardson TX- Hybrid
No C2C, only W2 candidates
We are seeking an experienced Transport Engineer IV to support Long-Distance (LD), ULH, and OTN Mesh transport networks . This role is responsible for capacity planning, CCR creation, transport augments, and network builds , working closely with planning, operations, and NOC teams to ensure reliable and scalable network growth.
This is a hybrid role based in Richardson, TX , requiring onsite presence Tuesday through Thursday .
Key Responsibilities
Create and execute Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) for U.S. domestic transport builds
Perform planning, forecasting, and capacity monitoring for LD/ULH transport networks
Engineer and initiate network augments and migrations across SONET and DWDM platforms
Develop detailed equipment engineering specifications , diagrams, and drawings (Visio)
Create Bills of Material (BOMs) and place orders for equipment, racks, hardware, and cables
Define cable requirements, running lists, and coordinate installations
Update and maintain central network inventory databases (ICON, CCP, Nautilus, CoFEE)
Perform diversity analysis, wavelength rearrangements , and capacity optimization
Coordinate with GTNOC during outages and support restoration efforts
Partner with real estate, CO equipment, capital planning, RCAT, operations, and vendors
Produce data analysis, reports, and presentations for transport planning stakeholders
Train and mentor junior engineers; demonstrate leadership and ownership
Required Qualifications
5–10 years of progressive experience designing SONET and DWDM transport systems
Strong logical (not physical) understanding of long-distance transport networks
Experience with capacity planning, forecasting, and network builds
Proficiency with Visio and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills
Ability to work in fast-paced environments and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with Verizon systems such as ICON, CCP, BGW, MECCA, NAUTILUS, CANVAS, TCOMS, nSAP
Experience consolidating data from multiple tools into centralized repositories
