We preserve the rich and diverse history of Waterloo and its community, honor the service and sacrifice of Iowa’s veterans from the Civil War through present, gather and share the voices and stories of history makers and those who witnessed it, and inspire curiosity and scientific exploration for future generations through hands-on learning, engaging exhibits, preservation of two historic homes, and a publicly programmed planetarium.The RoleAs our Director of Development, you will shape and drive a more sustainable financial future at the Grout Museum District. This is a relationship-first leadership role for a strategic fundraiser who believes philanthropy is built on trust, vision, and community. You will also lead our marketing and communications function, ensuring our public narrative and donor communications work effectively to advance organizational goals.What You'll Do• Lead a multi-year development strategy to diversify philanthropic giving, including individual giving, major donors, corporate giving, planned gifts, and expanding the grants pipeline• Drive an endowment campaign to grow the museum’s fund from $2.5M toward a $15–20M long-term goal• Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, and civic leadersWhat We're Looking For• Five or more years of progressive development experience with demonstrated success in major gifts, grant writing, or campaign fundraising• Proven ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with donors, funders, and community stakeholders• CFRE credential or active pursuit strongly preferred given the scope of this role• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; equivalent experience considered• Proficiency in Bloomerang CRM or comparable donor management software• Valid driver's license and current personal auto insurance requiredWhat We Offer• $70,000-$80,000 annually, commensurate with experience• Health, eye, and dental insurance, paid time off, pension • Professional development with the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy for certificates in Fundraising Leadership and Fundraising Management (Campaign emphasis)• Start date will be July 1, 2026How to ApplySend your resume and a brief cover letter to margaret.moye@gmdistrict.org and diane.popelka@gmdistrict.org.
