Tree Climber Position A Climber uses sophisticated climbing and rigging techniques to cut away dead or excess branches from trees or shrubs to maintain right-of-way for roads, sidewalks, or utilities. This position improves the appearance, health, and value of trees. As a Climber, you will prune/treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, hand pruners, clippers, and power pruners. You will work off the ground in the tree canopy in this position and may use truck-mounted lifts.Duties and Responsibilities Include Essential Duties:Cuts away dead and excess branches from treesClears branches around power lines, using climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck boomsCables, braces, ties, bolts, stakes, and guides trees and branches to provide supportCleans, sharpens, and lubricates tools and equipmentInspects trees to determine if they have diseases or pest problemsSupervises others engaged in tree trimming work and trains lower-level employeesOperates boom trucks, stump chippers, brush chippers, power saws, sprayers, and other equipmentPrunes, cuts down, fertilizes, and sprays trees as directed by tree surgeonsTransplants and removes trees and shrubs and prepares trees for movingDuties and responsibilities may change with or without noticeWhat You'll Bring to the Team:Semi-skilled in mechanicsProficient in proper tree groundwork, including but not limited to basic tree pruning and tree removalMust be able to complete a proficiency test consisting of climbing, knot tying, and chainsaw maintenanceDemonstrate an understanding of the safe handling and operation of chainsaws, chippers, and stump grindersValid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per Company requirementsKnowledge of essential job functions and responsibilitiesAttention to detailOrganizational skillsStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to problem solveMeet all physical requirements of the positionPass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is requiredLegally authorized to work in the United States
