We currently have Equipment Mechanic opportunities in light-duty vehicle (gas and diesel) repair and heavy truck (diesel) repair. Most of the work is completed at our Vineland Road facility during normal business hours, but locations can change based on operational needs. Job Description General Functions Performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy equipment, fire trucks and other emergency apparatus and equipment. This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems, fire pumps, fire equipment, diesel and small engines. Work is performed without close supervision, exercising independent judgment as to the necessary method of repair. Oral and written instructions are received from the Foreman/Senior Foreman and/or Shop Supervisor, who evaluates performance based on supervisory abilities, demonstrated mechanical skills and achievement of desired results. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Shop Supervisor or assigned supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports, and results achieved. Representative Duties/Assignments: Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification. Equipment Mechanic I Performs basic and routine maintenance and repairs on automotive, construction trailers, emergency apparatus, and heavy equipment. Replaces fluids, hoses, belts, batteries, lights, and related components. Changes and repairs tires. Cleans and lubricates mechanical parts. Assists higher-level mechanics with more complex repairs. Follows proper safety standards and procedures and uses protective equipment as required. Operates tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Maintains accurate records of work performed. Inspects work areas to ensure cleanliness and safety and reports any deficiencies to supervisory or quality control personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned. Equipment Mechanic II Performs skilled maintenance and repairs on automotive, construction trailers, emergency apparatus, and heavy equipment including major overhauls. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and determines required repairs. Repairs and replaces major components including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and braking systems. Operates diagnostic equipment and tools to identify issues and verify repairs. Provides guidance and assistance to lower-level mechanics. Ensures compliance with safety standards and procedures. Operates tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Maintains accurate records of repairs and parts used. Inspects work areas to ensure cleanliness and safety and report any deficiencies to supervisory or quality control personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Equipment Mechanic I High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance and repair. An equivalent combination of relevant education or experience may be substituted. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Must possess Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification; or obtain within three (3) years of hire. Minimum Requirements Equipment Mechanic II High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance and repair. An equivalent combination of education or experience may be substituted. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Must possess two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications or obtain within three (3) years of hire. Depending on area of assignment, must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License; or obtain within one (1) year of hire. Preferences ¿ CDL license preferred. ¿ Experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance. ¿ Ability to work on a team with a focus on customer service. Salary Information Equipment Mechanic I Pay Grade: 011 - From $19.00 to $24.12 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Equipment Mechanic II Pay Grade: 013 - From $21.51 to $27.96 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Placement based on Education and Experience Benefits 10 paid holidays and up to 2 floating holidays annually. 18 days paid time off per year.
