Director/VP of SoftwareLocation: Remote. Offices in San Francisco, CA; Boston, MAThis role is posted on behalf of the following client: A venture-backed Series A software company building an agile, Git-native collaboration platform for hardware/circuit design teams. The product brings modern version control, CI/CD-style automation, and AI-assisted workflows to electronics development—powering faster iteration for teams building everything from IoT devices to robotics and advanced vehicles.Role OverviewThe Director/VP of Software will own product development strategy and execution while building and leading a growing engineering organization. This is a hands-on leadership role (roughly 60% management/strategy, 40% individual contribution) reporting to the CTO, with several technical team leads in place today. Success requires comfort moving between high-level system architecture and jumping into the codebase to unblock complex, cross-team engineering challenges across a full-stack product (Go services, Rust parsing, and a Vue/TypeScript front end). What You'll DoOwn the product development roadmap with the CTO and Product, make architecture decisions that balance speed, scalability, and quality, and translate customer/business needs into clear technical plans (including build-vs-buy and technical debt strategy).Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering organization by managing technical leads, hiring and developing top talent, setting team goals and operating cadence (sprints/standups/retros), and participating in code reviews, architecture discussions, and incident response as needed.Drive cross-functional alignment and hands-on execution across Platform, Parsing, GenAI, and Front-end teams—partnering with Infrastructure on deployments/reliability, collaborating with Customer Success/Sales to incorporate feedback, and jumping in to debug/prototype/optimize performance end-to-end (including complex CAD document rendering and scalable APIs/data models).Who You Are8+ years of software engineering experience with strong depth in modern web application development, plus 2+ years of people management experience (hiring, mentoring, performance management) and a track record of delivering product end-to-end through cross-functional teams.Strong architectural instincts with the ability to operate at the systems level and dive deep into implementation details; comfortable with ambiguity, high autonomy, and customer-facing technical communication.Experience across relevant technologies such as Go, Rust, TypeScript/Vue, web performance optimization, CI/CD and test automation, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, PostgreSQL, Docker; Kubernetes a plus). Nice-to-haves include ECAD/CAD or hardware domain experience, parsing/rendering/graphics work, and integrating AI/ML into product workflows.
