Food Runner
FOOD RUNNER JOB SUMMARY
The Food Runner/Expeditor is responsible for helping to: (1) ensure guests receive excellent guest service by delivering food orders from the kitchen to guest tables quickly and accurately, (2) all plates are prepared and garnished correctly before delivering to tables, (3) maintain the cleanliness of the expo line, and (4) organize the order tickets and communicating effectively with the back-of-the-house (“BOH”) team to ensure that food orders are prepared properly and efficiently.
FOOD RUNNER ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Have strong interpersonal communication skills in order to greet guests, answer guest questions and address guest concerns in a warm, professional, and accommodating manner
Ensure all plates are prepared and garnished correctly before delivering to tables
Ensure guests have everything they need on the table including proper silverware, napkins and share plates when delivering food
Work with servers and BOH to quickly correct any guest concerns regarding food orders, quality and presentation
Keep expo station clean, organized and well stocked
Ensure all utensils are polished and well stocked
Exhibit consistently dependable, reliable, punctual, and trustworthy conduct
Provide exemplary guest service on a consistent basis
Assist all servers, bartenders, and managers with carrying of plates
Communicate food orders to BOH employees, paying attention to priority tickets, allergies, and special requests
Complete any and all assigned cleaning duties, including stocking and organization
Perform all assigned side-work quickly and efficiently
Properly set up and break down stations before and after operating hours
FOOD RUNNER SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Knowledge of Teamwork and Toast POS system
Ability to read, write and speak the English language to interact with guests, the public, and coworkers
Proficient verbal communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and professionally deal with stressful situations during busy periods in a loud, busy, and crowded environment
Strong interpersonal skills to provide overall guest satisfaction
Must have strong knowledge of food menus
Must have the ability to carry multiple plates at one time sometimes using a large tray and tray jack
Knowledge of proper food handling requirements
Knowledge of bar and kitchen items
Basic mathematical skills
Knowledge of daily maintenance and cleaning of venue
Must have knowledge of all required legal documents, i.e., A.B.C., Health Department, Police, City, Etc.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent optional
Experience
Minimum of one year’s experience in a fast-paced restaurant/bar
Age
Must be at least 18 years old.
Licenses or Certificates
Food Handlers Card
ABC Service Certification
CPR certification and/or First Aid training preferred
GROOMING
All employees must wear the proper uniform and maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance in accordance with the Company’s grooming standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in an environment with constantly elevated temperatures
Must be able to work and move quickly in a tight-space environment in a safe manner without disrupting other employees
Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
