Produce Manager
Position Overview
The Produce Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Produce Department, ensuring fresh, high-quality products, exceptional merchandising, and outstanding customer service. This role drives sales and profitability while maintaining strict food safety standards and developing a strong, high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
Oversee daily produce department operations
Ensure product freshness, quality, and proper rotation at all times
Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing displays
Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and execution of promotions
Team Leadership & Development
Hire, train, and develop produce associates
Create schedules to meet labor goals and business needs
Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management
Build a positive, productive, and customer-focused team environment
Customer Service
Deliver exceptional customer service and product knowledge
Assist customers with selections, questions, and special requests
Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
Promote a customer-first culture within the department
Merchandising & Inventory
Maintain strong in-stock conditions and minimize out-of-stocks
Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory control
Execute attractive, high-impact produce displays and seasonal sets
Monitor and control shrink, waste, and product losses
Financial Performance
Drive department sales, margin, and profitability
Manage labor, shrink, and operating expenses
Analyze key metrics and implement action plans to improve results
Support overall store sales goals
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
Maintain proper handling, storage, and rotation of all products
Follow all company policies and safety procedures
Maintain a safe working and shopping environment
Qualifications
Previous produce, grocery, or retail management experience preferred
Strong leadership and team development skills
Knowledge of produce handling, merchandising, and freshness standards
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and organizational skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stocking
Work in refrigerated and wet environments
Flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
