The Fleet Technician III serves as the technical go-to in the shop, performing advanced multi-trade refurbishment and repairs on mobile storage equipment such as containers, ground-level offices, and mobile/modular offices while modeling safety, quality, and productivity, and coaching other technicians. This role may include such other responsibilities and duties as assigned from time to time, based upon company needs.What You’ll DoPerform advanced, multi-trade diagnostics and complex refurbishment on mobile storage equipment, completing work accurately, on time, and within budgetPerform advanced, non-standard, and multi-trade troubleshooting, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural problems, complex leaks or damageDemonstrate expertise in multiple skilled trades as required by the branch. May include HVAC, electric, plumbing, welding, diagnostics, and repairsComplete complex repairs: remove, repair, and install floors, tiles, roofs, walls, framing, doors, windows, screens, caulking, painting, filters/dampers, replacing exterior siding, trim, swapping wheels, tires, and axels, and other repetitive repairsDiagnose and resolve non-standard problems requiring advanced technical knowledgeComplete assignments on time and within budget as documented on work ordersDocument work completed and materials used on work orders using the required mobile applicationsRemove and install decals and equipment numbersProvide day-to-day technical leadership and mentoring to the service team, guiding workflow, quality, and safety standardsProvide technical guidance and direction to the service teamCoordinate workflow and task prioritization to maintain shop efficiencySet the pace and model quality and safety standards for the service teamServe as liaison between service team and managementCoach and mentor other technicians on advanced technical skills, quality standards, and safety protocolsProvide on-the-job training for complex procedures and problem-solving approachesHelp assign tasks and sequence work to optimize shop/yard productivityHandle complex service calls and advanced field diagnostics, including customer communication and support of field operationsPerform complex service calls on an ad hoc basis including multitrade troubleshootingHandle advanced diagnostic and repair work in the field, especially HVAC, plumbing, electrical and complex issuesLead customer communication for complex technical issues, set expectations, and manage basic conflict or dissatisfactionTravel to customer sites for advanced repairs and emergency situationsComplete necessary field documentation and reportingAssist with setting mobile/modular offices and supporting CDL A Drivers as neededRequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalentTrade skill training preferred or equivalent years of experience5+ years of experience in the construction industry and repairing and maintaining equipment and toolsAdvanced mechanical aptitude and expert tool knowledgeAbility to read and interpret technical specifications and complex work instructionsStrong attention to detail for quality repairs and customer interactionValid state driver’s license with acceptable driving recordStrong verbal and written communication skillsAdvanced construction knowledge and backgroundDemonstrated leadership, teamwork, and customer service skillsDemonstrated time management skillsAbility to utilize required information technology, working knowledge of heavy equipment, tools, and the manufacturer’s warranty processAccurately record time and materials used for proper work order completionAbility to coach and mentor less experienced operations staffAdvanced diagnostic and problem-solving skillsThis position is deemed Safety Sensitive for purposes of United Rentals’ policies and procedures.Why join us?BenefitsWe don’t just “talk the talk!” We’re an award-winning company (recently named a Glassdoor Best Place to Work in 2026) that truly cares about our people - That’s why we offer best-in-class benefits and perks that will support you and your family.
