Job Title: Project Engineer Our Company: Command Electronics is a family-owned manufacturer and distributor of 12-volt lighting and accessories serving the recreational vehicle, agricultural, cargo trailer, marine and truck industries. Command is a domestic manufacturer: 80% of our products are made at our plant in south central Michigan. We have injection molding capabilities as well as expertise in wire harnesses and general assembly. Overview: Command Electronics is searching for talented individuals to fulfill a Project Engineer position. Command is seeking an individual with the desire and capability to use Lean Manufacturing concepts to launch new products to our customers with a focus on teamwork, accuracy, and speed to market. This a great opportunity for an entry level engineer to quickly learn and provide positive impact while working in the hands-on, agile environment of a growing small company. The chosen candidate will find a stimulating and positive work environment working with our diverse mix of wire harness, injection molded and LED lighting products. We require a creative and detail-oriented engineer who is eager to learn and dedicated to continuous improvement. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Coordinate the project launch of manufacturing processes for products (new or engineering change), from costing to prototypes to customer launch and early phases of mass production. Provide engineering support for both new product development activities as well as factory support of existing products. Translate product requirements into a mechanical specification and test plan to be used for development. Conduct design analysis and testing to prove design will meet customer requirements. Review customer parts/assembly prints for manufacturing feasibility and potential cost savings. Compile material and labor costing models for sales staff that are complete and accurate. Prepare request for quote packages (RFQ) for new projects to send out to suppliers of raw materials, components, and tooling. Coordinate building of customer prototypes and first piece samples, ensuring all customer specifications and timelines are met. Create 2D & 3D drawings and designs for prototypes, production assemblies and sales brochures. Assist with design and processing of 3D printed prototypes and custom production fixtures using SLA and FDM processes. Assist with Bill of Materials, Routings and Engineering Change documentation. Specify, build, and program electrical functional test equipment for production testing. Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering Prior experience with SolidWorks 3D modeling of parts and assemblies. Experience with SolidWorks Routing Add-In is preferred, but not mandatory. Prior experience with 2D CAD software, preferably AutoCAD or DraftSight Prior exposure to various wire harness components and processes is preferred (wire types, terminal crimping, splicing, connector designs, locks, seals, etc.) Past experience with injection molded part design and tooling is a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook. Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Techniques Additional Requirements: Strong technical and organizational skills in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills, in a professional environment. Ability to multitask and display consistent follow-through on tasks and projects. A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm, and confidentiality. Be a team player with the ability to develop and maintain strong positive collaborative working relationships with interdepartmental team members. Have great attention to detail.
