Fitter/Welder (Experienced)

SummaryFit and weld fabricated steel components for marine barges. Perform various welder functions under the direction of Foreman.Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are typical for this role. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices. Tack parts together in preparation for welding Set up and operate welding equipment Visually inspect completed welds to assure adherence to specifications Remove excess slag Perform production welding as required Weld and fit in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions Perform precise fitting work on components (steel panels and other parts) Follow and adhere strictly to Gunderson’s safety policies and regulationsQualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe following generally describes requirements to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period to successfully perform the assigned duties. Ability to weld structural steel and become certifiable in 1/16” flux core wire in all positions with unlimited thickness plate Ability to pass a weld test of fillet welds in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position Ability to pass groove weld tests which consist of a 1" 2G, 3G, and 4G plate Ability to do math fraction calculations, read a tape measure and pass written weld test Must be able to burn efficiently and with good quality using a hand-cutting torch Blueprint reading and layout skills Ability to troubleshoot minor welding equipment problems Ability to follow safety procedures Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers Motivated to continuously improve and learn new skillsEducation And ExperienceExperienced in gas-shielded flux core welding processExperience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environmentCompensationThe base pay range for this role is $23 – $31 per hour.
