CustodianPosition Title: Custodian Department: Facilities Appointment Type: Annually Renewable FLSA: Non-Exempt Position Type: 1.0 Location: Albany Campus, Albany, OR Salary Grade: 9 Salary Rate: Starting annual salary is $36,106 plus comprehensive benefits. Job Summary: Supports the Facilities and Custodial team by performing a wide range of custodial duties to ensure a clean, safe, inviting environment where students, staff and the public can learn, work and gather. Essential Duties: Sweeps, scrubs, dust mops, wet mops, wet vacuums, auto scrubs, burnishes, strips, refinishes and buffs floors. Cleans windows, entry glass, tabletops, counters, walls, sinks, eyewash stations, chalk/white boards and trays. Vacuums, extracts, shampoos, and spot-cleans carpets. Dusts table tops, desktops, chairs, and polishes furniture and woodwork. Vacuum upholstered furniture. Cleans, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms. Cleans and polishes metalwork, mirrors, and other restroom fixtures. Cleans and disinfects inside and outside of sinks, toilets, seat covers, and urinals, including hardware. Plunges clogged toilets. Cleans walls, ceilings, partitions, doors and air vents. Descales toilets and urinals as needed. Cleans mirrors and removes graffiti. Maintains floor drains. Restocks and keeps inventory of various classroom, office and restroom supplies including paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and related items. Empties and cleans waste receptacles. Replaces trash liners when torn or soiled. Collects trash, picks up recyclable papers, cardboard, magazines and other disposable materials for refuse pick up. Removes paper or trash debris on ground around receptacles, in classrooms and hallways. Cleans exterior core areas, covered walkways, stairs, entrances and windows. Pressure washes concrete and brick. Sweeps, mops, and vacuum concrete. Empties ashtrays and trash containers. Removes graffiti and performs other duties as needed. Replaces burned out light tubes and bulbs (fluorescent and incandescent) as needed. Moves furniture and equipment for department moves, carpet replacement, new purchase installation, excess removal, etc. as needed. Sets up and takes down furniture, standard equipment, and specialized equipment in meeting rooms, classrooms, and other school facilities for special meetings and events such as banquets, athletic events, theater performances, graduation, etc. Cleans and maintains custodial equipment, including performing minor repairs or preventative maintenance. Checks doors, windows, and assigned area for maintenance needs and possible vandalism. Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards. Keeps building areas secure during cleaning. Maintains custodial closet supply inventory, and obtains supplies from the main campus-supply storage room as needed. Sanitize touch points such as door handles, push bars, tables, chairs, drinking fountains, etc. May work with grounds and maintenance crews as needed and/or assigned with snow removal and de-icing sidewalks and stairs when necessary. Assists visitors and students by providing information and services, and responding to questions such as location of restrooms, classes, events, etc. Communicates and coordinates with staff and faculty concerning building activities, special requests, set ups and custodial projects. Assists with emergency evacuations and closures. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Position involves sustained walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting various weights up to 60 pounds. Requires the ability to bend, twist, and stoop repeatedly during an eight-hour work shift. Eighty percent of job duties require repetitive arm and shoulder motions with 10 to 60 pounds of exertion. Requires ability to climb (e.g. ladders), kneel, and crouch. Education and Experience - Education and Experience: Position requires demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate at a level sufficient to perform all of the essential duties of the position. Must be at least 18 years of age. One-year of full-time custodial experience in a large public facility with extended hours of operation and multiple high-traffic areas is preferred. Licenses and Certificates: A valid Oregon driver's license may be required to perform some duties. Must complete blood borne pathogens and hazardous materials training prior to beginning those assigned tasks. Forklift certification is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge and Skills: Requires a general knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial care and routine facilities maintenance. Requires knowledge of the methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures. Must know use, and precautions associated with use, of cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work. Must be familiar with operation and upkeep of power equipment including buffers, vacuums, wet vacuums, pressure washers, floor scrubbers, and extractors. Must have a good knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures. Requires some knowledge of chemical reactions. Abilities: Must be able to perform all of the essential duties of the position with limited supervision and according to well-established quality and safety standards. Requires ability to sufficiently read and understand instructions, safety materials, labels on detergents, and chemicals used in cleaning; and the ability to read and understand SDS sheets. Must be able to maintain tools and equipment in a safe working condition. Requires the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and to be able to determine when to refer more complex maintenance requirements to a supervisor. Must be able to learn quickly the schedules, policies, and procedures associated with duties. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to follow oral and written directions. Must be able to complete and understand blood borne pathogen training and hazardous materials training. Must be able to use a computer to complete online trainings and submit time sheets. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
