Principal Product Engineer
We are looking for a Principal Product engineer to lead the development and delivery of interior systems from concept to production, ensuring they meet technical requirements, quality standards, cost targets, and timelines while coordinating cross-functional teams and suppliers.The ideal candidate sholud be a technically strong and experienced leader who masters interior systems, materials, and manufacturing processes, leads cross-functional teams and suppliers, manages the full product lifecycle, and delivers high-quality, user-focused solutions while balancing cost, quality, and timing.Main functions to develop:Responsible for defining, designing, and developing products or product families, ensuring efficient use of materials and resources in production.Oversees product quality through testing and continuous improvement of specifications, while managing and implementing customer-driven changes during serial production.Leads product development from concept to SOP when required - either in a limited scope for Built-to-Print (BTP) projects or end-to-end as a Full-Service Supplier (FSS).Contributes to identifying and evaluating new products or extensions to maintain competitiveness, and may lead small teams or focus on research, design, and manufacturing process implementation.Preferred Requierements:Requires 8–12 years of experience in automotive interior engineering, with a strong background in the design, development, and integration of multiple interior components such as instrument panels, door panels, floor consoles, hard trims, and overhead systems.Demonstrates solid expertise in key technologies including injection molding, coverstock lamination processes (vacuum forming, press lamination, and bladder wrapping), and part assembly methods like vibration welding, ultrasonic welding, heat staking, and mechanical fastening.Additional experience in secondary technologies such as hybrid injection molding, compression molding, and cut-and-sew processes is advantageous, while familiarity with other techniques such as foam-in-place, laser or knife scoring, and trimming methods like punch or waterjet - further strengthens the candidate’s profile.Education:MS/MBA preferred.BS/BA required.To stand out:Comfortable working independently and directly with customers, with the ability to stay self-motivated in standalone environments and operate with minimal supervision.Capable of defining product requirements with customers, translating their needs into clear inputs for internal teams, and effectively communicating design direction and tooling criteria back to stakeholders.Possesses strong knowledge of core engineering documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, EBOM) and is able to create, maintain, and update them as needed.Leads or participates in regular design reviews, manages engineering changes through ECN/RFQ systems, and applies GD&T principles along with basic fixture and gage design understanding.Skilled in analyzing dimensional data, driving corrective actions, and supporting cross-functional methodologies such as APQP, DFA/DFM/DFE, PFMEA, and DFSS.Understands FEA/CAE processes, defines required inputs/outputs, interprets results, and proposes design improvements.Experienced with Teamcenter, managing design releases (DRs/DTRs), tracking open issues, maintaining documentation, and ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded through continuous improvement and lessons learned.Provides full support through engineering release, change management, and product launch, including on-site support when required.Compensation and Benefits:Medical health insurance.Training and professional development opportunities.Flexible working hours and smartworking.Hybrid modelAt Itera Mobility Engineering, we cultivate a dynamic and innovative work environment that encourages professional growth.
