With a culture driven by purpose, straightforward communication and clinical domain expertise, Commence cuts straight to better care.RequirementsThe Data Analyst will work closely with the Data/ Technology and Operational teams to analyze complex healthcare datasets, develop data models, and generate actionable insights that inform internal products, client solutions, and strategic decisions. The analyst will be instrumental in shaping how we ingest, curate, and leverage clinical and administrative data, and will collaborate with engineering, product, and subject matter experts across the organization. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of healthcare data, regulatory context, and business impact.Analyze and interpret large-scale healthcare datasets (e.g., claims, EHR, FHIR, registries) to identify trends, outliers, and key performance indicatorsCollaborate with data engineers, product managers, and domain SMEs to define data requirements, metrics, and quality controlsBuild and maintain curated datasets and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders using SQL, Python, or BI toolsSupport design and execution of analyses for clinical, operational, or policy use cases, including cohort definitions, utilization patterns, and risk stratificationDevelop and document business rules for data standardization, mapping, and transformationAssist in data validation and QA efforts for data pipelines and analytics-ready datasetsEnsure data privacy and compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational security protocolsTranslate analytic findings into clear, compelling narratives and data visualizations for decision-makersMonitor key data health metrics and assist with anomaly detection and root cause analysisSupport data strategy and architecture decisions through domain-aligned analysis and metric modelingQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Public Health, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field3+ years of experience working with healthcare data, including EHR, claims, or public health dataStrong proficiency in SQL and at least one analytics-oriented language (e.g., Python, R)Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or QuicksightFamiliarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7, ICD, CPT, LOINC) and common quality or performance measuresAbility to synthesize complex data and present findings to technical and non-technical audiencesDetail-oriented with strong data hygiene, validation, and documentation habitsExcellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for continuous learning.Experience working in a healthcare or regulated environmentExperience with Agile development methodologies.Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with Databricks, Snowflake, or other modern data platformsUnderstanding of data governance and security frameworks relevant to healthcare (e.g., NIST, HITRUST)Prior experience working with government agencies (e.g., CMS, VA, DoD) or payer/provider organizationsKnowledge of healthcare delivery systems and policy frameworksExperience designing or supporting dashboards or reports for operational, clinical, or executive audiencesMaster's degree or certifications in Data Analytics or related field.Commence' headquarters are in Virginia Beach, VA, however we are open to remote candidates in the following states: AZ, AR, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MS, MO, MT, NC, NE, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, DC, WI, and WV*Work Environment/Physical DemandsThe work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
