Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer – Electro-Mechanical SystemsJob Type: ContractContract Duration: 6 months+ with potential renewal into 2027 based on performance and business needsLocation: Tucson, AZ (Onsite)Work Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexible; schedule can be discussed after selection)Pay Rate: $50–$60/hour on W2, depending on experienceInterview Process: 2 rounds of virtual interviewsPosition OverviewWe are seeking a motivated, hands-on Senior Systems Engineer with strong experience working with complex electro-mechanical systems and devices.The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in systems engineering, hands-on testing, test method development, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical documentation.This role requires a highly independent engineer who can apply advanced engineering principles to complex systems, develop comprehensive testing strategies, analyze sensor outputs, identify root causes, and collaborate with development and manufacturing teams to drive effective engineering solutions.Experience in a FDA- or FAA-regulated environment is highly desirable, with medical device industry experience strongly preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesApply extensive knowledge of engineering design principles, practices, and implementation to complex systems and assignments.Generate and evaluate design concepts and participate in technical and design reviews.Develop and execute comprehensive testing plans and hands-on testing protocols.Develop test methods and test beds for complex electro-mechanical systems.Conduct Design of Experiments (DoE) and perform detailed data analysis.Analyze digital outputs from sensors and interpret system performance data.Utilize Python coding for data analysis, automation, and test-related activities.Perform reliability testing and assess interactions between various system components.Troubleshoot complex system and test issues and determine root causes.Recommend and implement appropriate engineering solutions based on test results and troubleshooting findings.Support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes.Make independent engineering decisions and recommendations.Develop, document, and maintain testing protocols, procedures, and technical reports.Manage the defect lifecycle, including defect collection, documentation, tracking, analysis, and summarization for development partners.Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and development teams.Ensure testing and engineering activities align with applicable requirements, specifications, and risk controls.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical, Software, or a related engineering discipline.8+ years of relevant engineering experience.Demonstrated experience working with complex systems, preferably electro-mechanical devices.Strong experience with test method development and execution.Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) and data analysis.Hands-on experience developing test beds and executing testing protocols.Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.Ability to analyze digital sensor outputs and system-generated data.Python programming/coding capability for data analysis.Strong risk and requirements management experience.Excellent technical writing skills, including authoring test protocols, engineering reports, and technical documentation.Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions.Preferred QualificationsExperience in an FDA-regulated environment.Experience in an FAA-regulated environment.Medical device industry experience is highly preferred.Experience with regulated product development, verification, validation, and reliability testing.Experience working with development partners and cross-functional engineering teams.Experience with defect management and engineering change processes.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer who combines strong systems engineering fundamentals with practical testing and troubleshooting experience.They should be comfortable working directly with electro-mechanical devices, developing test methods, analyzing sensor data using Python, documenting technical findings, and independently driving complex engineering assignments from requirements through testing and resolution.
