This job is eligible to participate in IP’s annual incentive plan.Physical LocationWaterloo, IA; Amarillo, TX; Omaha, NECategory/ShiftSalaried Full-TimeThe MPS ( Mechanical Packaging Services) Technician is a hands-on service role responsible for working on box and tray forming equipment used in the setup of corrugated products. This position requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems and a commitment to delivering high-quality service in dynamic environments. Technician will work directly with customer teams to ensure equipment is functioning optimally, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. This customer-facing role demands strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve issues on-site. The Technician will be expected to travel extensively—up to 75% of the time—to various customer locations, providing prompt and effective service. Success in this role hinges on the ability to troubleshoot complex problems, communicate clearly with customers, and adapt quickly to changing conditions and equipment configurations.ResponsibilitiesIdeal candidates will possess excellent time management skills, the ability to produce detailed service reports related to specific calls, and a professional demeanor in customer interactions.This is a high-impact role that directly supports customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.Additional responsibilities include:Providing hands on service for box erector equipment and closing machines for protein customers in the beef/pork sectorCompleting quarterly preventative maintenance serviceWorking with customer maintenance crews to develop a training program and develop a list of preventative maintenance activities and schedulesCreating and fostering long term relationships with customers and their maintenance teamsThe Skills You Will BringThree or more years of related experience, preferably in the corrugated packaging industry supporting key customersA deep understanding of mechanical systems and technical processesStrong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skillsStrong business communication skillsProactive nature, self-driven, and the ability to work closely with customer teamsBackground in mechanical or industrial equipment service is preferredCommitment to continuous and process improvement meant to streamline processes for IP and our customersKeen observation skills and a mechanical aptitude as it relates to troubleshootingCompetenciesPlans and AlignsCommunicates EffectivelyOptimizes Work ProcessesAction OrientedManages AmbiguityDrives ResultsCollaborates
