Mainframe Systems Programmer/Mainframe Database Administrator (DBA)
The Mainframe Systems Programmer / Mainframe DBA is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, security, and availability of IBM z/OS mainframe systems and associated database technologies. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of mission critical enterprise applications supported by mainframe environments.Key ResponsibilitiesMainframe Systems ProgrammingInstall, configure, maintain, and upgrade IBM z/OS operating systems and related system softwareManage and support core mainframe subsystems including JES2/JES3, SMP/E, RACF, TSO/ISPF, CICS, IMS, DB2, and system utilitiesMonitor system performance and capacity; perform tuning and optimizationImplement and maintain system automation and scheduling tools (e.g., CA 7, Control M)Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and system failover testingDiagnose and resolve complex system-level issues and performance problemsApply vendor patches, PTFs, and software upgrades following change management proceduresDatabase Administration (DBA)Install, configure, and maintain DB2 for z/OS (and/or IMS DB) environmentsPerform database design reviews, schema changes, and capacity planningMonitor database performance and conduct tuning activitiesManage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategiesImplement database security controls, access permissions, and auditingSupport data migrations, application releases, and testing activitiesTroubleshoot database availability and integrity issuesRequired Skills & QualificationsTechnical SkillsStrong experience with IBM z/OS mainframe environmentsHands-on expertise with DB2 for z/OS (IMS experience is a plus)Proficiency with SMP/E, JCL, and system-level batch processingKnowledge of RACF security administrationExperience with performance monitoring and tuning tools (e.g., RMF, SMF)Familiarity with mainframe storage systems (DASD, tape management)Understanding of enterprise change management and ITIL practicesEducationBachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field OR equivalent professional experienceProfessional Experience5+ years of experience in mainframe systems programming and/or mainframe DBA rolesExperience supporting 24x7 mission-critical production environmentsProven ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional teamPreferred QualificationsIBM certifications (e.g., z/OS, DB2 for z/OS)Experience with modernization initiatives (mainframe-to-cloud integration, APIs, DevOps)Familiarity with tools such as Endevor, Changeman, File AID, ISPF utilitiesKnowledge of compliance standards (SOX, PCI, HIPAA, etc.)Soft SkillsStrong analytical and problem solving abilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environmentStrong attention to detail and documentation discipline All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
