Software Engineer – Python / Data AutomationLocation - North CarolinaSalary -75-80KRole OverviewWe are seeking a motivated Software Engineer with 1–2 years of experience and a strong Computer Science/software development foundation to join our team as a long-term contributor.This role will work closely with experienced vehicle data engineers and analysts to develop internal engineering tools, automate job orchestration, and maintain CI/CD pipelines. The goal is to reduce manual effort, improve engineering efficiency, and enable the broader team to focus on higher-level vehicle data analysis.This is a hands-on, heads-down engineering position well suited for someone who is technically strong, self-directed, process-oriented, and interested in developing expertise in large-scale data and vehicle/telematics systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain Python-based internal tools and automation solutions supporting engineering and data workflows.Own, maintain, and improve GitHub CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub Actions and automated deployment processes.Develop and manage automated Databricks jobs, workflows, and scheduling/orchestration.Support data engineers with pipeline development and automation as needed.Develop or consume REST APIs to integrate internal systems and trigger automated workflows.Write clean, maintainable, well-tested Python code.Participate in code reviews and contribute to software development and engineering best practices.Troubleshoot workflow, deployment, and pipeline issues and implement sustainable solutions.Develop clear technical documentation for tools, processes, workflows, and automation solutions.Required Technical SkillsPython: Strong programming skills for software development, tooling, scripting, and automation.Git/GitHub: Experience with branching, pull requests, code reviews, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD workflows.Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent: Experience with notebooks, jobs, workflows, scheduling, or similar cloud data platforms.SQL: Ability to query and transform structured data with an understanding of basic ETL/data engineering concepts.Workflow Orchestration: Understanding of scheduling, dependencies, automated workflows, and data pipeline patterns.VS Code: Proficiency with debugging, extensions, integrated terminal workflows, Git integration, and GitHub Copilot.Preferred / Nice-to-Have SkillsExperience developing or consuming REST APIs using Python frameworks/tools such as FastAPI, Flask, or Requests.Experience with Databricks Asset Bundles or similar infrastructure-as-code/deployment approaches.Basic knowledge of Docker and containerization.Familiarity with Delta Lake, Parquet, or similar data/lakehouse technologies.Exposure to vehicle data, CAN bus, telematics, off-road equipment, or automotive systems is a plus.Soft Skills & CompetenciesStrong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with data engineers, analysts, and domain experts.Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.Process-oriented with strong attention to detail.Comfortable working within verification, validation, and quality-focused engineering environments.Self-directed and capable of solving technical problems with limited supervision.Strong learning ability and curiosity to develop knowledge of vehicle data, telematics, and off-road machine systems.Dependable and accountable, with the ability to proactively communicate progress, risks, and blockers.Education & Experience1–2 years of professional software development experience, including relevant internship or co-op experience.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.Demonstrated ability to develop clean, maintainable Python applications and automation scripts.Experience working within a collaborative Git-based software development environment.
