Position: Paraprofessional TeacherWage/Hour Status: non-exemptSupervisor: Director of Gator AcademyPay Grade: Per Compensation ManualLocation: Gator AcademyEmployed: Per Compensation ManualAll child care employees must:Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilitiesRelate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patienceRecognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their culturesRecognize suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation and adhere to the laws of reporting this crimeEnsure children are not abused, neglected, or exploitedQUALIFICATIONS:Certified through TX Department of Childcare LicensingAchieved or in the process of completing requirements for a CDA.Current with the required 25 clock hours of training per year as required by CC LicensingCurrent with CPR/First Aid certification for infants/children/adultsClearance of TuberculosisClearance of Criminal History check (annually)Clearance of fingerprinting checkSuch alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptableMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:In addition to the responsibilities for employees specified, caregivers must:Know and comply with the minimum standards for child care centersKnow which children they are responsible forKnow each child's name and have information showing each child's age and known allergiesSupervise children at all timesInteract with children in a positive manner fostering children's sense of self-esteem and individualityFoster developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned activities that encourage exploration, awareness of self and others with their classroom and communityFoster cooperative atmosphereShow appreciation of children's efforts and accomplishmentsEnsure continuity of care for children by sharing with incoming caregivers information about each child's activities during the previous shift and any verbal or written instructions given by a parentComplete the required daily communication forms and give them to parents at pick up. Communicate with parents to instill confidence in you as a teacher, the classroom and the Gator Academy.EXPECTATIONS OF MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by studentsPosture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking and reachingLifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and/or positioning students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipmentEnvironment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids, bacteria, communicable diseases)Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stressProfessional Dress: Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent.
