As a global leader in mobility innovation for 30 years with over 225 staff, we are dedicated to connecting people to places by working across disciplines and scale to address social justice, safety, and environmental resilience.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop traffic signal plans, street lighting plans, ITS design, signing/striping layouts, temporary traffic control plans (TCPs), and PS&E packages using AutoCAD/MicroStationApply MUTCD, Caltrans, NACTO, FHWA, and local agency standards to design solutionsCollaborate with engineers and planners to integrate bike/pedestrian, transit, and safety enhancements into designsLead and mentor junior staff in design best practices and contribute to internal trainingImplement best practices and process improvements to enhance project efficiencyHelp lead the traffic group and support business development effortsDevelop proposals and manage client relationshipsManage multiple projects simultaneously, including scope, schedule, and budget oversightSupervise and support professional development of staff membersSkills, Knowledge and ExpertiseRequiredThis position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to8-12+ years of experience as a Traffic Engineer in a consulting environment or public entityBachelor's degree in Civil EngineeringProfessional Engineer License (P.E.)Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStationDemonstrated expertise in traffic signal design, traffic analysis, and signal timingDemonstrated experience preparing Plans, Specifications and Estimates packages for traffic design related projects (signals, striping, TCPs, ITS, street lighting)Demonstrated experience in traffic signal analysis using Synchro, Sidra, Vistro, or Vissim and providing traffic analysis reportsDemonstrated experience in developing traffic signal timing sheets, Railroad pre-emption calculations, and signal timing strategies as it pertains to alternative transportation usersStrong project management skills with ability to manage competing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects with cross-functional teamsExperience with proposal writing and business developmentStrong written and oral communication and presentation skillsWorking knowledge of MS Excel, Word, MS Project or equivalentThere are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and/or California Traffic Engineer (TE) LicensureTransportation planning/operations experience: multimodal corridor studies or Vision Zero initiativesExperience in active, non-motorized transportation planning and designProficiency in AGI and/or Visual LightingActive participation in industry-relevant professional associations and committeesBenefitsFlexible ScheduleAlta offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule where most employees work from home two or three days per week.
