GeoTest Services, Inc. provides a comprehensive suite of services to assist our clients with their project
needs from design throughout construction completion. Services include geotechnical engineering,
environmental, special inspection, construction materials testing, and building science services.
Exceeding 31 years in business, GeoTest participates in some of the most interesting development
projects in our region. Our company maintains four offices and two accredited construction material
laboratories in Washington State.
GeoTest is seeking to fill a Special Inspector position at our Arlington, Bellingham, or Tacoma,
WA office. This position provides support to the field testing and inspection staff and communicates
effectively with project managers and other project participants to provide assistance and technical
support for project completion. This support position is in our Special Inspection/Construction
Testing department and responsibilities and duties may vary depending on season, workload, and the
needs of the Company and our clients.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Performs special inspections for a multitude of projects including residential, commercial,
industrial, and infrastructure developments.
Reads and applies construction documents including plans, specifications, and RFI’s.
Coordinates with manager, mentor, and administrative staff to troubleshoot issues.
Performs special inspection and testing, dependent on required certifications, for a variety
of project sites.
Generates timely reports for applicable testing categories.
Obtains and maintains certification(s), as appropriate for the work being performed.
Demonstrated competence for the test or activity which is being conducted is a
requirement of the position.
Maintains a safe working environment.
Participates in approved continuing education to enhance job-related skillset. Continuing
certification/education is a requirement of the position.
Works on special projects as requested and all other duties as assigned which may vary
depending on season, workload, and the needs of the Company and our clients.
Qualifications:
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalency or equivalent combination of education
and experience.
Preferred certifications/qualifications include (GeoTest provides support to obtain
certifications, if necessary):
o ICC/WABO Reinforced Concrete
o ICC/WABO Proprietary Anchors
o ICC/WABO Lateral Wood
o ICC/WABO Structural Masonry
o ICC/WABO Structural Steel & Bolting
Ability to read construction plans and specifications required.
Strong organizational, computer, and math skills are required.
Clean driving record is required.
Ability to work outside, work independently, and be a self-starter.
Able to travel to construction project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain.
Effective oral communication skills are required. Must be able to effectively communicate
test results and observations with internal and external stakeholders in a timely fashion.
Effective written communication skills are required. Must be able to accurately document
test results and observations using a tablet or laptop in the field. Reports must be clear and
concise, while using proper grammar.
Lift up to 50 lbs from a standing, crouched, or kneeling position, repeatedly.
Carry up to 50 lbs in the form of sample bags, buckets, equipment, cylinders, or
wheelbarrows.
Stand on a hard surface for 8 or more hours per day.
Sit or drive for 2 to 4 hours per day.
Lift equipment, buckets, or tools on uneven terrain periodically.
Walk and carry samples, equipment, and tools on construction sites, gravel pits, open fields,
and/or uneven terrain periodically.
