Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction team, supporting both earthwork and underground utility projects. This role involves operating a variety of heavy equipment-including excavators, loaders, and dozers-for site development, grading, and utility installation.
The ideal candidate has experience in general construction and equipment operation, with a strong preference for those who have worked on sewer or underground utility projects. This position plays a key role in ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Heavy Equipment Operators work closely with field crews and supervisors to meet production goals while maintaining Elder Corporation's high standards for safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and dozers for earthmoving, grading, and underground utility work
Perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, and site preparation as needed
Support sewer and underground utility installation when applicable
Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and GPS systems to ensure accurate work
Work collaboratively with ground crews and supervisors to support efficient project completion
Perform fine grading and finishing work to meet project specifications
Safely work around existing utilities while maintaining proper clearances
Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventive maintenance
Identify and report equipment or safety issues promptly
Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including participation in safety meetings
Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment in construction required
Experience with earthmoving, grading, or site development required
Experience with sewer or underground utility work preferred
GPS/machine control experience preferred
Soil stabilization experience a plus
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Valid driver's license with a verifiable driving record
Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices, including trench safety
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
Dependable with a strong work ethic and reliable attendance
Willingness to work extended hours during peak construction season
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
Comfortable working in trenches and around heavy equipment
