EIA TechnicianThe EIA Technician is responsible for the use and maintenance of the enzyme immunoassay (EIA) instruments including calibrations, quality controls, patient specimens, data analysis, and documentation.Essential FunctionsPrepare and run daily Calibrations, Pre-QCs, and Post-QCsInterpret data from Calibrations, Pre-QCs, and Post-QCs to ensure that appropriate values are produced. Recalibrate and rerun QCs as neededPrepare urine specimens for processing using established standard operating procedures (SOPs)Accurately aliquot specimens into labeled test tubes using single-channel, variable-volume pipettesAnalyze data from specimens to ensure complete testing and to identify specimens needing rerunsFlag specimens that do not meet specimen validity requirementsEnter data into the laboratory information system (LIS)Properly centrifuge test tubes as needed for rerunsLearn the purpose and theory of each component of enzyme immunoassay testingPerform required daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance following the established maintenance scheduleRecognize and help troubleshoot issues with the enzyme immunoassay instrumentsRefill on-board reagents as neededReceive and put away ordered suppliesMaintain inventory for all EIA supplies including (but not limited to) receipt and filing of ordered supplies; dispose of packagingDocument new and opened reagents, calibrators, and quality controlsDocument prepared solutions appropriatelyPrint and file daily printouts for Calibrations, Pre-QCs, and Post-QCs, making appropriate notationsDocument daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance performedDocument EIA temperatures for refrigerated compartments and the incubation chamberDispose of specimens that have reached their retention dateClean and put away laboratory glassware and other items as neededWipe down all work surfaces daily using an appropriate cleanerChange temperature recording charts on refrigerator and freezer weekly and monthly as requiredDocument room temperature and humidity levels as well as gas levelsRefill supplies in bins on work stationsReceive and put away incoming supplies; dispose of packagingClean storage bins and carts as neededEnsure AMR and Instrument Comparability reports are completed accordinglyContact support personnel timely and effectively when issues outside of the laboratory correction ariseOther duties as assignedRequirementsProfessional RequirementsRegular and prompt attendanceAbility to perform work following established standard operating procedures and ensuring the highest quality standards are maintainedProficient in ability to operate laboratory instrumentation and computers with scientific software applicationsAbility to listen, learn, and promote accountability and responsibility related to all EIA processesMust be able to achieve superior results when work is reviewed in terms of quality, timeliness, and adherence to established methods, standards, and policiesMust be able and willing to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when requiredProficient with Microsoft Office applicationsEducation and Experience RequirementsAssociate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with appropriate national certification; or Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, or a related fieldPreference for candidates with familiarity with enzyme immunoassay, chemistry analyzers, or ELISAPreference for candidates with experience working with bodily fluids, such as urine and oral fluidKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively, orally and in writingAbility to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlinesAbility to function in a team environment and promote collaborationMust be able to work under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures, techniques, and well-defined policiesSkill with completing assignments accurately, and with attention to detailPhysical RequirementsWork will be performed in a laboratory environment and exposes the incumbent to normal laboratory hazards and chemicals, including biohazard materialsWork in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)Position requires sitting, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeingMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Direct ReportsNone
